The mayor of Cranston, Rhode Island is calling a ruling by the city’s public school board an attack on time-honored traditions and family relations. The school district has outlawed mother-son ball games and father-daughter dances as part of its activities citing the state’s position on gender discrimination.
Cranston Mayor Allan Fung says he’s “utterly disappointed” that the school district ended the gender-based events. This comes after the state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union sent a letter of complaint this past spring.
