George Zimmerman’s attorneys have become relentless in their quest to keep Trayvon Martin on trial in the case against George Zimmerman. This week, Zimmerman’s lawyers have requested school and social media records of the deceased Martin. The attorneys want the records from middle and high school, as well as access to his Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Zimmerman killed Martin on February 26th of this year. It is being alleged that he profiled Martin before shooting him. His attorneys claim that he had to shoot Martin out of self-defense.
Benjamin Crump, the attorney for the Martin family, says that Martin’s school records have nothing to do with the fact that Zimmerman killed him.
Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, says that the state had no problem gathering Martin’s school records from Manassas, Va.
“Yet, when the same exact documents are requested regarding Trayvon Martin, the State denigrates the request as a fishing expedition,” O’Mara says. “The irony is rich.”
The motions will be heard by Circuit Judge Debra Nelson. The previous judge, Kenneth Lester, recused himself after stating that Zimmerman had shown “blatant disregard for the judicial system.”
