This week, we came to Louisville, KY for our Building Outstanding Men and Boys (B.O.M.B.) family empowerment series. A healthy group of people from the Louisville community gathered with us at Simmons College to share important information about what it takes to build outstanding men in the black community. These are men who are equipped to be leaders, husbands and fathers, which is a critical component to the building and development of the African American community.
The panel consisted of the following extraordinary people:
Dr. Kevin Cosby: Pastor at St. Stephen Baptist Church and President of Simmons College
Dr. Ricky Jones: Professor of Pan African Studies, The University of Louisville
Larry Watkins: Former Major for the Louisville Metro Police Department
Dr. Mary Stoddard, Esq: Partner with Stoddard, Parks and Associates Law Firm
One of the points that came up during the discussion was one about the conquering of black people. As you might already know, you don’t always need physical weapons to control any man or animal. A zoo keeper only uses physical weapons to control the animal if necessary, and instead focuses his energy on gaining psychological control. Some would argue that the psychological control of African Americans might come from financing and supporting a set of cultural norms and habits that create a blueprint for our own self-destruction.
The video below makes the point a bit more clearly.
