Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. has become a mystery to constituents who haven’t seen him in the months since he initially sought treatment for depression. He was initially supposed to to resume his Congressional duties in early September, but then his staff said he was too depressed to speak publicly.
When The Daily caught up with Congressman Jackson, he looked just fine as he smoked a cigar outside his home, dressed in jeans and a crisp white button down shirt. He reported told The Daily that he is ‘not well’ and has a doctor’s appointment twice a day at George Washington University Hospital. “I go over there … at 10 [a.m.] and 1 p.m.” Jackson said.
If Jackson is feeling so poorly that he can’t go back to work and serve his district, then one wonders what he was doing at a local bar with women who weren’t his wife.
Jackson was seen at Bier Baron Tavern, a local Washington D.C. watering hole, not once, but twice, this past week. According to those who saw him at the bar, he seemed to be enjoying himself and his company.
Gawker reported: “They were laughing and very focused on each other. Not sure when they left but I saw them there around 10:30 p.m. They didn’t appear intoxicated or loud, but were definitely enjoying themselves.”
Jackson is being investigated by the F.B.I. for misusing money to decorate his home, but he did not address those issues in his interview with The Daily.
In a brief interview alone before going into his son’s house, Jesse Jackson Sr. told The Daily that his son is “just trying to clear his head. He’s been under medical supervision.”
How long is it going to take to clear his head? When will he get back to the business of representing his constituents?
