Mother Burned Son’s Hands and Put Salt in the Wounds Because He Touched an Ipad

Karina Torrescano Hernandez is not going to be running for Mom of the Year anytime soon.  The 27-year old was arrested after school counselors noticed that her son had multiple burn marks on his body.  Police and doctors later saw enough evidence to call for her arrest.

Police later found out, during an investigation, that the mother allegedly burned the boy on the stove and poured salt into his wounds to “teach him a lesson.”  He would tell his teachers that he was hurt on the monkey bars on the playground, but eventually confessed to what was happening when a friend told the teachers.

Police found red marks on the boy’s palms that indicated that he’d been touching “an electric stove element or something similar,” according to a statement of probable cause.   The boy said that his mother wanted to teach him a lesson about touching an iPad, so she held his hands over a burning stove and then rubbed them together with salt.

The boy says that he and his three year old brother were often hit with a spoon, a shoe or a “witches broom.”   The boys’ babysitter also confirmed that the mother would hurt the boys.

A neighbor, Lisa Infante, stands by the mother, and says that police have it wrong.

“None of us here that live here could even imagine her doing something like that to her child. She really takes really good care of her kids,” she told www.komonews.com.

Hernandez has been booked on one count of domestic violence and second-degree assault of a child.  Her bail has been set at $25,000.
