Thief Robs Church’s Chicken With Samurai Sword

This recession has put a pinch in everyone’s lifestyle, but has it gotten so bad that thieves can’t even afford pistols?  America is  experiencing an uptick in its crime rate, and with that we’re seeing more and more thieves who obviously aren’t career criminals.

According to police, a man robbed a Kansas City Church’s Chicken Tuesday night armed with a samurai sword.

Local NBC affiliate KSHB reports:

The suspect entered Church’s Chicken, at 55th and Prospect, just before 10 p.m. Tuesday wearing a dark-gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying the sword, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department.

The man was described as a light-skinned black male standing between 5 foot 4 and 5 foot 5, weighing 120 to 130 pounds.

The crime rate in America has increased for the first time in nearly twenty years. Crime experts blame the uptick in crime on an increased number of assaults last year, but say it is too early to tell whether the increase represents a significant swing.

In  addition, a  report released in early October of this year by the US Bureau of Justice Statistics shows the rate of violent crime among victims 12 or older increased 17 percent in 2011 from the previous year.

The crime rate had been declining since 1993, so this recent increase has caused alarm, with some people saying that it is a sign of the country’s worsening economic condition.
