GOP Rep. Who Compared Immigrants to Dogs Still Insists It Was a ‘Compliment’

GOP Congressman Steve King compared immigrants to dogs in May, saying allowing immigrants into the country is a lot like choosing a good dog.

King compared choosing immigrants to choosing bird dogs: “You want a good bird dog? You want one that’s going to be aggressive? Pick the one that’s the friskiest, the one that’s engaged the most, and not the one that’s over there sleeping in the corner.”

King said what you should avoid at all costs are lazy dogs.

“If you want a pet to sleep on the couch, get the one that’s sleeping in the corner.”

“You get the pick of the litter and you got yourself a pretty good bird dog,” he concluded.
