In an off the record interview with the Des Moines Register made public Wednesday, President Obama said that if he gets reelected, it’ll be because the
GOP alienated Latinos.
The Des Moines Register originally agreed that the interview was off the record, but later published a story imploring the Obama campaign to allow them to release the interview. The Obama campaign initially resisted, but then obliged without further comment.
President Obama implied during the interview that he believes paying attention to the Latino community should be any elected official’s top priority:
The second thing I’m confident we’ll get done next year is immigration reform. And since this is off the record, I will just be very blunt. Should I win a second term, a big reason I will win a second term is because the Republican nominee and the Republican Party have so alienated the fastest-growing demographic group in the country, the Latino community.
