Just 50 years after ending its notorious segregation policy, Ole Miss finally has a black homecoming queen. The school just crowned Courtney Roxanne Pearson as their queen and it has stirred up two issues.
The first issue is that it has been 50 years since the segregation policy was done away with and yet in a whole half a century, we are expected to believe that no young black woman ever had “what it took”. Really?
Here’s the problem with changing laws that are related to prejudice; you can change the law but changing the law does not necessarily change the mindsets of the people who were subjecting others to oppression or prejudice.
