When Rev. Al Sharpton and New York City Schools Chancellor, Joel Klein, announced that they would be going into a partnership to reform the nation’s public schools, many found it rather surprising.
The venture, which had the aim of closing the decades-old achievement gap between white and black students , to onlookers, seemed ambitious. It was called the Education Equality Project.
What most people did not know was that, through his organization, National Action Network, Sharpton received a check for $500,000. The money was called a donation and it was allegedly donated to facilitate the National Action Network’s involvement in the new effort.
