BRRRRR !!! Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane has set the bar high for himself as he plans on releasing 10 .. yes 10 albums in the next 15 months !!! If Gucci’s plan goes accordingly he will have 10 retail albums in stores by December 31, 2013.
On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Gucci Mane will unveil “Trap God,” his third mixtape of the year following “Trap Back” and “I’m Up.” By the end of 2012, the prolific Atlanta MC will have released a whopping 60 tracks — but Mane tells Billboard that 2013 will be an even bigger year. “My goal is to drop 10 projects in 2013,” says the rapper. “All albums. I gotta do it. I know the 10 projects I want to drop.” Of that output, Mane says that “maybe 30, 40 percent” of what we wants to release next year is complete. “I got a lot of work to do,” he admits. “We collectively have a lot of work to do, but we’re ready to work.” (Billboard)
The often troubled rapper, who is as famous for his trials and jail stints as he is for his music, chalked up 2012 as rebound year.
“I feel like this was a rebuilding year for me, and my whole record label,” says Mane, who released two collaborative albums, “Ferrari Boyz” with Waka Flocka and “BAYTL” with V-Nasty, in 2011. “Waka dropped a great album, but at the same time, I feel like it didn’t get the push it deserved. So I said, ‘This is the year I’m gonna power myself up and build my war chest, and regroup for next year.’” (Billboard)
I applaud Gucci for dedicating himself to his work and art, but 10 albums ??!! In O N E year ??!!! What happened to putting out A GREAT ALBUM and riding off its success ?? You know QUALITY over QUANTITY .. The biggest concern I have about Gucci’s ambitious endeavor, is that his music may be made less valuable, which is a concern for the entire hip hop industry as well, in relation, to mixtapes and gaudy free releases. Dropping that many albums in such a short span, how can he push the full potential out of each project ? My biggest example is Bobby Brown … YES Bobby Brown !!!! Bobby Brown was the biggest artist in the world at one point when he released Don’t Be Cruel, cosisting of 9 tracks and 2 interludes, went 7X’s platinum with 4 top singles.
In this age of downloads, ringtones, digital sales and the such, it just seems to make more “cents” and dollars to slow roll it a bit and not just oversaturate the market. One could saturate themselves into obscurity. All in all .. Good Luck Gucci and I hope its that fire !!!!
