Fairness of Judge in Usher and Tameka’s Case Questioned

Just as it seemed like the media frenzy surrounding Usher Raymond and his ex-wife, Tameka Foster, was dying down, it looks like it may start all over again.

CBS Atlanta News has reported that some judges in Georgia have been failing to disclose their relationships with attorneys in open court. The failure to disclose relationships brings up questions about how fair those judges have been in dispensing justice.

Among the judges being investigated is the judge who presided over the case between Raymond and Foster and awarded the singer custody of his two sons.

The judge is suspected of having failed to disclose her relationship with Raymond’s lawyer and there are also other questions being raised about the case.

Raymond and his ex-wife returned to the court last week after her attorneys requested that the judge presiding over the case recuse herself. Foster is also requesting a new trial.

On Monday, there was a special report on CBS Atlanta News which covered the story about  judges who do not disclose the relationships that they have with lawyers that are trying cases in their court rooms. While the practice is not illegal, it does make it questionable whether the judges are being fair during trials.

Judge Bensonetta Tipton Lane granted Raymond full custody of his two sons and then, soon after, it was discovered that Raymond’s lawyer had worked on the judge’s re-election campaign in 2008.
