Nicki Minaj may put on clothes, hair and make up that make her look like bubble gum wrapping but the singer and rapper did not expect that she would be treated like bubble gum; chewed and then spit out. Minaj is not happy about the volume of sales of her latest album. The album was certified platinum but she is still not happy and she blames three major retailers for the lack of sales volume.
Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded — The Re-Up which is an expanded version of her second album was released on November 19 but Minaj complains that it was difficult for her fans to get their hands on it.
Speaking to New York radio station Power 105.1′s The Breakfast Club, Minaj said,
“It is hard to get the album because the stores basically said that the last few re-releases they had put out did not do well and they didn’t want to take a chance.”
She went on to say,
“So, Target and Walmart is not selling the album. Target is actually my biggest retailer — they’ve always been my biggest retailer. They’ve sold the most Nicki Minaj albums ever, so, thank you, Target. But I wish you could’ve sold this one.”
Referring to Best Buy, she said that they only took limited quantities of her album because they wanted to play it safe. Minaj said that the major distributors made if hard for her and set her up to fail.
Minaj also claims some of her fans “have been driving hours, [literally] hours, to get one CD. But it is what it is, and I appreciate the support, and I’m excited about the music.”
Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded landed in stores in April and sold over 1 million units in the U.S. and also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. To some, those may seem like great numbers but to Minaj, it was disappointing.
