Man Who Inspired Omar from The Wire Dies at 58

Donnie Andrews is not the kind of person you see on the corner every day.  He had something unique and special.  He was so special, in fact, that a character was created based on his life.  It also turned out that the tv personification of Andrews, named Omar, became one of the most popular characters on the show.

The 58-year old gangster died of a heart attack, according to the Baltimore Sun.  He once made his living robbing drug dealers on the west side of Baltimore.  He went to prison for 18 months for murder and was paroled in 2005.  How someone gets just 18 months for murder, we have no idea.
