State Police Lt. Paul Vance said in a press conference this morning that they’ve retrieved “good evidence” in connection to the catastrophic elementary school shooting that killed 20 small children, 6 innocent adults, and the gunman.
The evidence is believed to shed light on a possible reason as to why 20-year-old Adam Lanza (pictured left) would force his way into an elementary school and kill students, faculty and staff, and then himself. Despite initial reports of the gunman’s mother, Nancy Lanza, being a teacher at the school, the school board has confirmed that they have no recollection of her. She was also found dead in her home from an apparent gunshot wound.
Very few names of the victims have been released to the public, but the school’s principal Dawn Hochsprung, 47, and school teacher Viki Soto, 27, were among the faculty and staff whose identities have been released to the public. Soto’s final moments have been revered as heroic. She died trying to shield her class from the gunman. “The family was informed that she was trying to shield, get her children into a closet and protect them from harm, and by doing that put herself between the gunman and the children,” her cousin Jim Wiltsie told reporters. “And that’s when she was tragically shot and killed.”
Details from this tragedy are still underway as medical examiners prepare to release the identities of all of the victims who lost their lives to this tragic incident.
