Although most men will never admit it, they oftentimes battle with self-confidence too — especially men who are in the spotlight. Former NFL star Michael Strahan revealed the reason why he will never close his gap during an interview with Elle Magazine.
He told the magazine: “I was really close to closing it up. I was at the dentist having him do mock-ups. I thought about it, man.” He continued: “I was in my twenties. I was playing with the Giants. There’s so much pressure to be perfect. You can fix everything now. For me, I made the conscious effort to say ‘This is who I am.’ I’m not perfect. I don’t want to try to be perfect.“
It’s unbelievable to believe he was mature enough at 20 years old to make that decision, but we applaud him for it. Many other celebrities didn’t feel as comfortable with their gap. For example, R&B singer Keyshia Cole received criticism when she decided to close her gap. She tweeted: “Man I know folks upset about me [losing] that gap. I had to make me happy, sorry. No seriously I didn’t like that smile. Now I like it.” And while rapper Nas didn’t have a gap, he did have a chipped tooth when he first stepped into the headlines. In his hit record titled “Got Yourself A…” the hip-hop artist rapped “You know the kid got his chipped tooth fixed.” The song came Jay-Z rapped about opening beer bottles with Nas’ chipped tooth in a song titled “Super Ugly.”
