Three South Carolina men are allegedly facing charges after robbing a Horry County family while they were decorating their Christmas tree. The family says they were decorating their tree on Saturday night when three armed men burst into their home and robbed them.
According to the family, the gunmen forced them to the ground, separated the parents from the children, and ransacked their home.
The thieves left with property, including an X-box, DVDs, and jewelry, as well as the family’s vehicle.
Local affiliate Live5News reports that arrests have been made in the case:
The Horry County Police Department charged 19-year-old K’Shawn Aldontay Morris with armed robbery, burglary, resisting arrest, unlawful carrying of a pistol and six counts of kidnapping.
Investigators also charged 21-year-old Maurice Alexander Morris and 21-year-old Troy Tereal Gibson with armed robbery and resisting arrest.
Police nabbed the burglars when they spotted the family’s stolen 2007 Toyota Yaris running a stop sign near the location of the robbery. When an officer turned on his blue lights and began following the stolen vehicle, it was travelling in the wrong lane. Once pulled over, the thieves abandoned the vehicle and ran. The officer caught up with one of the suspects on foot that night, but the other two men were arrested later.
People in the neighborhood of the robbery blame fewer police patrols as the reason for the increased crime rate.
