In 2006, The Washington Post compiled a documentary film project that analyzed the lives of African American men called, “Being a Black Man.” The film was made over a period of several months. It consisted of interviews, exclusive video, and personal stories that revolved around the often complex experiences that come with being an American black man.
Recently, The Post teamed up with The Maynard Institute for Journalism Education to begin a similar project called “BrotherSpeak.” This new project will be a three-part video series that will once again profile the lives of African American men. The three themes of the video series are fear, dreams, and love. Each video focuses on one of the three themes.
