New Orleans School District Bans the Teaching of Creationism

The Orleans Parish School Board has just voted to ban the teaching of Creationism in its schools.  Some are hailing the decision as a path toward serious science education.  Others are saying that Creationism is a legitimate and alternate form of science, citing concepts like Intelligent Design as a way to explain the gaps in Evolutionary Theory.

The move is against the backdrop of other controversial decisions in the state, like Governor Bobby Jindal agreeing to give $11 million dollars in taxpayer money to schools that teach creationism.
