World peace icon and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela was finally released from the hospital after spending 18 days there. The 94-year-old Mandela recovered from a lung infection and gallstone surgery. He is now staying at his residence in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj, Mandela is currently receiving “home-based high care” at his home in Houghton, a neighborhood in Johannesburg.
“We thank the public and the media for the good wishes and for according Madiba and the family the necessary privacy,” said Maharaj in a statement, using Mandela’s clan name, which is a term of affection. The statement requested that Mandela’s privacy continue to be respected “in order to allow for the best possible conditions for full recovery.” (Atlanta Black Star)
