MSNBC Host Melissa Harris-Perry Defends Obama’s Mostly White, Male Cabinet

by Yvette Carnell

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry chimed in on the controversy surrounding diversity in President Obama’s cabinet and, as usual, Melissa Harris Perry (2)sided with the president. In making her case, Harris-Perry also took a moment to take a dig at Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

She told MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts that, although Obama’s inner circle is comprised of mostly white men, the president is likely to surround himself with people with diverse views and opinions. Then she brought up Clarence Thomas, and said that although he is black, he does not represent the views of the “vast majority” of African-Americans.

“I think we want to be careful, because no one wants to assume that any given physical body carries with it a set of political ideas,” Harris-Perry said.

“You know, Clarence Thomas sitting on the Supreme Court of the United States does not mean that Justice Thomas is representing, necessarily, the positions, the issues, even the Constitutional interpretation that is shared by the vast majority of civil rights organizations and by the vast majority of African-Americans,” she continued.

Although it is true that no particular physical body carries a predefined set of ideas, it is just as true that people who have experienced s*xism and racism first hand are more familiar with it, and often much more likely to take action against it.

Harris Perry, however, seems perfectly willing to put the plight of African-Americans and women into the hands of white males who she feels are better able to represent our views. It is odd to hear an African-American woman argue against more African-Americans having cabinet positions and high level positions at the White House.  Is that really what we’ve all worked so hard for in the Civil Rights movement, so that white men can represent us in the halls of power?

I feel The Prex should remember this when he is out in our neighborhood asking us for our votes. I know we have blacks that are qualify for those jobs. No blacks nowwhere. I am not going to offend him. Ms.Harris-Perry is a very educated women maybe she feels inferior and won’t apply for those jobs or feels her jobs with Msnbc may be in Jeopardy if she speak out against the Prez?

Folks what is important, a qualified person or a African American? The writer of this artical needs to be fired it has been to often that articles have been printed to spread propaganda and incite unrest. How about encouraging folks to get an education to obtain skills to get jobs for the 20th century. How can Obama make someone hire an unqualified person and why would we want to hire one.

IIt’s a little hard for me to admit this, but I do see where Melissa Harris-Perry is saying to an certain extent. I mentioned several times here on this very website how a black female administrative judge ruled against me when I had over-whelming evidence, plus I was the only one who had a lawyer. It was also clear that I would have never been in that perdicament if I weren’t a black men. However she failed to do the right thing when she was in the position to help change this cruel and unsually treatment towards black men. Instead she decided to give me the sexy eye, then rule against me. What a waste of space.

In saying this, I still don’t excuse Obama for not finding more qualified blacks in his office that are willing to do the right thing against racism. But a again, if he filled his cabinent with people of the mindset of that black female administrative judge, then we are through as a race sooner or later.

it is very easy to support the president when one knows little or care about all the racism, sexism, reported rapes, reprisals, intimidation, hostile work enviornment & more, going in places like the us department of agriculture and other federal agencies nationwide. s. o’brien, cnn morning news reporter, on friday, was correct in addressing part of this issue of the obama administration “war on women”. the problem is that congressional leaders in both parties….republicans and demoncrates, traditional civil rights organizations and other civil & human rights advocates are sleep at the wheel when it comes to holding our president accountable for discrimination & other abuses by his staff. accountability should not be ignored because of a persons title or their happens to be black. when the secretary of agriculture secretary tom vilsack fired shirley sherrod no one was held accountable….from from the white house political employees down to employees at the usda department of agriculture. the white house has a very serious problem with regards to holding its people (political appointees) accountable for known/well reported abuses. this is a see, hear, speak no evil…..ignor it and it will go away attitude.

this is unexceptable for any administration.

The president is not blind to who he keeps around him. Stop making excuses for a grown a*s Harvard educated, constitutional lawyer type, nobel peace prize awardee, Wall Street connected pluto/technocrat.

    Ugh……

He personally appointed Summers, Geigtner, kept Bernanke, and is advised by elite Harvard economists. Did you know that those people I named are responsible for the the repeal of Glass-Stegal and are responsible for the economic collapse also. They are free market, deregulation guys. He appointed the same people. It’s a revolving door.

Summers, Greenspan, and Robert Rubin were responsible for getting Glass-Stegal overturned during the Clinton years. They were Clinton’s financial guys, Bush’s and so on. Please wake up and stop thinking that people are hating on Obama.

Just watch these two documentaries full these facts and stop avoiding it and spewing ignorant fiction about this president. He is owned. OWNED.

Unless you can NAME the creditable minority candidates who have been overlooked, we can safely ignore your objections to the President’s nominations. He tried unsuccessfully to appoint Rice. He must still nominate someone for Labor. I have not heard Melissa’s program on this issue but I will not take your word that she defended the lack of diversity. Soledad criticized the Prez though. Soledad is right. The Prez is too fixated on the Ivy League connections. How else do we explain the disaster that was the appointment of Harvard’s Larry Summers. He is blind to the fact that those in that connections framework are mostly white establishment types. They may be competent technocrats but they have never been the engine and generators of fresh new ideas. On the Defense portfolio I give the Prez a total pass. That is because Colin Powell allowed the neocons to besmirch his reputation by using him as the main carrier of the lie about WMD’s in Iraq. If it was not that, I would never have forgiven this Prez for not making Powell Secretary of Defense.

What I bring is facts. You obviously don’t know the facts about who or what you support because if you did know, you would be trying to open the mind of others as well. Nobody’s hating on a another brother for reaching great heights.

Barak W. Bush is exactly the opposite of everything he told us he is for and more. I know politicians lie and that’s what he is but it’s best to know what and who the man really is. You wont get this from the corporate news agencies because they are donors and lobbyist also.

    I’m gonna keep it real!

Mellisa Harris-Perry is another negroid, who drinks O’Drama’s bath water with scum in it!

I OBSERVE her show, and what I see on her show is a disgrace! Black men seldom sit in the FIRST seat nor do Black women, when they do, she still makes sure the white folks, especially the males speak FIRST!

This may sound petty, but during our forced enslavement the white boy was ALWAYS FIRST, to b**t an enslaved brother or sister. Just OBSERVE the pictures and positions on tell-a-LIE-vision, and see where Blacks are located…last or second to the last.

Just look at the pictures of Black men and women, and you will OBSERVE the Black woman is ALWAYS BEFORE HIM. O’Drama is a prime example of a modern day Steppin Fetchit, he’s just a puppet for these caucasoids.

Anytime this mulatto chooses caucasoid males over Black people, who are just as qualified or MORE qualified, they are looked over! I have NO RESPECT for Mellisa, or O’Drama, because they are bought negroids.

When you work on the white boy’s plantation, you will ALWAYS have to dance to their music.

O’Drama is a modern house negroid, and his wife knows this! She doesn’t have the glow, that she had when he first became ‘resident’ of the Black House because she knows the real deal. Who do y’all see FIRST when they are together?

ALL these negroid people on these tell-a-LIE-vision shows, such as Sharpton, and the other negroids, will never play a positive role or SPEAK UP and SPEAK OUT against these injustices on their shows.

Kerry Washington’s role is a DISASTER! Just the name of the show; Scandal, is negative. She’s nothing, but a modern day SCANDALAS ‘ho, being a servant for a white boy!

NOTHING ON TELL-A-LIE-VISION IS WORTH WATCHING WHEN IT COMES TO BLACK PEOPLE! IT’S TIME TO STOP ENTERTAINING, AND START COMPLAINING, ABOUT THE WAY WE ARE BEING PROJECTED IN THE MEDIA (Mindless Evil Devils In Action)

The focus that we should direct some of our attention on is to have African Americans get a higher education. Unemployment is high for our people. During these times we must take advantage of the grants and assistance to make us employable versus relying on a government or unemployment check. The president can’t make a company hire us if we lack skills. We live in a very competitive world and when the cream rises to the top we must look at it and figure out how to become a part. Anyone with half a brain knows that with diversity their is a wider representation of ideas. This maybe why this adminstration has given tokens to the public in one hand and taken away private civilian freedoms in the other. It is similar to what he(President Obama) did when he became the editor of the harvard law review; after the Black students rallied behind him against racist attacks, he hired the conservative persons that opposed him and maybe one Black. They were outraged and this was the only track record we had going into both elections. Agree with the moniker of Barak W. Bush. Not sure if its a CIA or FBI or Federal Reserve thing but something is array and has more to do than just the lack of heterogeneity of his cabinet.

I might not agree with every decision he has made, but considering all of the obstacles he faces I think he has done well. The usual bickering between parties is always going to happen. However, because of his skin color it is much deeper. He didn’t come into office with the support our previous presidents had. We know that he is the brightest and best Presidents we have ever had. The Butchering of Gaddafi Is America’s Crime

by BAR executive editor Glen Ford

“Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton appeared like ghoulish despots at a Roman Coliseum, reveling in their Libyan gladiators’ butchery.”

Last week the whole world saw, and every decent soul recoiled, at the true face of NATO’s answer to the Arab Spring. An elderly, helpless prisoner struggled to maintain his dignity in a screaming swirl of savages, one of whom thrusts a knife [4] up his r****m. These are Europe and America’s jihadis in the flesh. In a few minutes of joyously recorded b********y, the rabid pack undid every carefully packaged image of NATO’s “humanitarian” project in North Africa – a h****r and revelation indelibly imprinted on the global consciousness by the brutes’ own cell phones.

Nearly eight months of incessant bombing by the air forces of nations that account for 70 percent of the world’s weapons spending, all culminating in the gang-bang slaughter of Moammar Gaddafi, his son Mutassim and his military chief of staff, outside Sirte. The NATO-armed bands then displayed the battered corpses for days in Misurata – the city that had earlier made good on its vow to “purge Black skin” through the massacre and dispersal of 30,000 darker residents of nearby Tawurgha – before disposing of the bodies in an unknown location.

Melissa Harris-Perry is apart of the corporate, campaign donating, make or break a candidate of their choice, propaganda feeding media now. Just like Rev. Al Sharpton. They make excuses for “Barak W. Bush” all the time. The people that voted and continue to make excuses for him are asleep and don’t know it. Most of them are asleep. Others are apart of the establishment and they know exactly what’s going on.

And even if he did put more black people or whomever around him, they would still be apart of the corporate plutocratic, technocratic elite. These people are out of touch and represent the will of their out of touch sociopathic masters who give them thier marching orders and pull the strings. Barak W. Bush has no connection to the black struggle. His masters knew this. That is why he had to do the community organizer sh*t in Chicago in order to at least have some struggling black people give him some credibility with us.

This will go down as one of the biggest scams in black history.

You are so right TSHWO. To think in 2013, we now have black folks (presumably) on a website that caters to black folks trying to explain why a (.5%) black president is excused from having black folks in his inner circle. What kind of a bazaaro world do we now live in? We are now actually making the excuse that there are no qualified black folks to be in the president’s cabinet; talking like affirmative action critics in the 70′s and questioning the qualifications of black professionals. Totally pizzing on all of our brothers and sisters who worked hard to work themselves up the ranks and achieve by telling them you are not good enough to serve, we have a white man that will do a better job than you. This is proof that we are really starting to regress as a people.

I see some of us are still refusing to remove our heads from our backsides. What will we look like in a few years when Obama is out of office and the next president has zero black representation in his/her administration? We are handing them a reason to discriminate against us. When they finally put that Obama bong down and let the smoke clear you will realize this.
