NFL Player Ray Lewis Planning To Retire After Playoffs

NFL Player Ray Lewis Planning To Retire After Playoffs

Anybody who understands the game of football knows that Ray Lewis is certainly one of the great ones.  Argued by some to be one of the top 10 players in NFL history, Lewis has dominated on the defensive end of the ball, terrorizing opponents with his aggressive style of play.  Lewis is on his way out of the league after this season is over, ending a reign of terror that has rarely been seen in NFL history.

His legacy is mixed, however, since he nearly went to prison a few years ago after someone was killed outside a night club. If players could get over the need to ruin their lives, a lot of other great athletes might have gone on to have lucrative careers.  Lewis will be missed on the field, and fortunately for him, his off-the-field decisions were the right ones too.

The Baltimore Ravens say Ray Lewis will retire after the playoffs.

The star linebacker told the team “This will be my last ride.” He has been out since Oct. 14 with a triceps injury, but expects to play Sunday in the wild-card round against Indianapolis.

The 37-year-old Lewis says “It is time for me to create a new legacy” after 17 NFL seasons.

Lewis was the AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2000, when Baltimore won the Super Bowl title, and in 2003.
