Samuel L. Jackson is known for his one liners, as well as his bombastic personality, and during a recent interview about Django Unchained, he used his
most identifiable character traits to needle a reporter about the “N” word.
Reporter Jake Hamilton asked Jackson about Django Unchained‘s unending use of the “N” word, and Jackson acted as if he didn’t know which “N” word the reporter was referencing.
“No? Nobody? None?” Jackson pretended. ”The word would be…”
Hamilton pressed on, telling Jackson he didn’t want to say the actual word, but Jackson pushed Hamilton, goading him: “Try it!”

Samuel Jackson may be on to something. Personally, I never thought that acting as though the word never existed was ever the answer. Over time, the word was losing it’s sting and I felt we should not continue to let a word have power over us. If someone used the word, let it be their problem.
Once I heard some young white guys using the word and they were making reference to themselves and it was not in a malicous manner.
I think the worse thing we could have done was to have a so-called burial of the word.
To me, the continued dilution of the “n”word would have been better over time cause it is not, in my opinion, likely to ever go away. You can’t change history.
