South Carolina Restaurant Invokes Outrage Over Racist T-Shirts Worn By Employees
By Victor Trammell
A small southern town Mexican restaurant has created a stir over some controversial t-shirts worn by its employees. A worker tweeted a picture of another worker at Taco Cid of West Columbia, S.C. It shows the employee wearing one of the restaurant’s uniform shirts with a picture of two tacos below a box trap and a label that reads: “How To Catch An Illegal Immigrant.” Taco Cid has defended the shirts stating that the picture and theme on the uniforms is a joke. However, critics and immigrant rights activists have decried the t-shirts as racist and culturally insensitive.
B. Loewe, a spokesman for the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, told Fox News:
“There’s nothing funny about a child crying as its mother is being taken away by police. There’s nothing to joke about when it comes to our immigration policies. This T-shirt is not funny.”
