VA Proposing to Spend $2.5 Million To Prevent Future School Shootings

krupikaThe United States has collectively experienced a lot of grief in its recent cultural memory. The Sandy Hook Shooting in Newtown, Connecticut followed the movie theater shooting in Aurora Colorado by less than six months. A total of 40 people were murdered and 60 people were injured in both shootings. The majority of the murders at Sandy Hook were children.

These struggles hit very close to home for those in Virginia who remember the deaths of 32 people, at Virginia Tech, at the hands of a mentally disturbed Seung-Hui Cho, who also killed himself. Now people in Virginia are re-living what some are calling a “retraumatization” as a result of recent shootings. Lawmakers in Virginia plan on taking actions that should benefit their state and hopefully pave the way for others.
