Grammy Award winning singers, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys set the pace for the evening of performances, for the night of the 2013 SuperBowl. Hudson was joined by the Sandy Hook Children’s Chorus for America The Beautiful. The children of Sandy Hook appeared to be recovering well from the tragedy that took the lives of many of their classmates, although they still have a long way to go.
The children started the rendition off and Jennifer Hudson joined them later. In J Hud style, the singer belted out “ Oh beautiful for spacious skies.” The cameras panned around to catch players from both teams trying to hold back tears, as they watched these brave young souls, sing their hearts out.
Then it was Alicia’s turn. Dressed in a beautiful red gown that complimented her short tresses, she sat at a pearly white piano as thousands looked on. Slowing down The Star Spangled Banner, Keys took the crowd home with the note that everyone waits to hear, “O’er the land of the free, and the home of the brave.” Her performance goes down in history with Whitney Houston and Marvin Gaye.
