As many have already heard Fantasia is yet again using social media to let out her frustration. This time she unleashed on JET magazine whom she says used an outdated picture of her ,on their latest cover. Her post on Instagram read, “This saddens Me!!! It is clear that this picture is 10 Years Old and JET Magazine puts it on the Cover!! After I send them the NEW LOOK AND DIRECTION. . SAD!!! I WANT A PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM JET. Now im not sure if the interview is correct. SEE!! America they and use me as they c***h Dummy BUT NO MORE. IF I DONT STAND FOR SOMETHING ILL FALL FOR ANYTHING.”
While the old saying “if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything” may be true, complaining too much can be toxic for an entertainer’s career. The former American Idol, may have to learn the hard way. As of late the singer has been very verbal about her feelings.
Frustrated and fed up by the harsh criticism she was getting, Fantasia took to social media to let it out. Her first grievance about same s*x marriage and marijuana being alright but her life is criticized, led to serious backlash.
Now one has to wonder if her past ranting has resulted in her latest grievance being disregarded by supporters and JET magazine. JET’s editor –in- chief. Mitzi Miller released a statement, in regard to the recent allegations by Fantasia saying, “JET magazine is honored to have Fantasia grace the cover of its March issue. It is unfortunate that Fantasia is displeased with the cover selection, however JET stands by its decision. As standard editorial practice, JET consulted with Fantasia’s team, but reserves the right to select the image we deem as most appropriate for JET’s brand and reflective of the cover story sentiment. JET continues to root for Fantasia’s success and encourages her fans to pick up the new issue.”
Notice that the statement ended with encouraging people to buy the issue? It all comes back to money. There has to be a release somewhere that would clear up the entire issue. If the release form that Fantasia signed says that they have the right to edit any way that they deem fit, then Fantasia has no leg to stand on.
JET could be basing their reluctance to apologize on that little piece of paper called a contract. However, Fantasia has a right to defend herself, if she thinks she has been misrepresented. The issue is not the fact that she is defending herself, but the manner in which she chooses to do it in. The social media platforms have been the downfall for many.
Although it can be a fun place to interact with fans without inhibition, as a celebrity you have to be careful what you say because your life is magnified 24/7. It may not have been a wise choice for Fantasia to vent about a reputable magazine within the African American community, through Instagram. Where was her PR when all of this was going down? Someone could have advised her better and maybe the magazine should have been more proactive in working with Fantasia’s reps, instead of taking the easy way out with an old picture.
