If you want to become a citizen of the Caribbean island of Dominica, it’s no longer necessary for you to have been born there. All you have to do is write a fat check, and the tropical island citizenship is yours.
Fox affiliate myfoxny.com caught with a Palestinian man who bought his citizenship for a cool six figures. Hadi Mezawi received a Dominican passport after paying the government $100,000.
“At the start I was a little worried that it might be a fraud, but the process turned out to be quite smooth and simple. Now, I am a Dominican,” said Mezawi. This will help Mezawi travel for business since his home of Palestine is not recognized as a country.
As political unrest boils over in several countries, other more stable cash strapped countries have begun selling citizenship as a way of recovering revenue. Many people who live in countries with uncertain futures are looking for passports so that they can leave if necessary, and Dominica is happy to oblige.
The islands of St. Kitts & Nevis are also islands where it is easy for foreigners to get passports, so easy that a company is actually building a facility which allows investors to buy citizenship and property at the same time.
The more they fight over there, the more political problems there are, the more applications we get here,” said Victor Doche, managing director of another company that offers four condominium projects where approved buyers are granted citizenship in St. Kitts.
There’s no way to know exactly how many people have taken advantage of cash for citizenship programs, but the numbers are certainly on the rise.
