If you want to know how out of control violence is in Chicago, just consider that the city’s murder rate now outpaces that of Al Capone’s ‘Gangland’ era, one of the
most notorious crime eras in history.
In Chicago, there were 506 murders in 2012, an increase of 17 percent from the previous year. As of Thursday, there were 42 homicides and 157 shootings so far this year. If you compare this to the Capone era, you quickly surmise that today’s gangsters are far more lethal than Capone’s.
ABC 7 reports:
Forty-two people were killed in Chicago last month, the most in January since 2002, and far worse than the city’s most notorious crime era at the end of the Roaring Twenties.
