Congressional Report Finds Federal Prison Population Has Surged 790% Since 1980

by Deborah Caldwell

A new Congressional  Research report finds that the federal prison population has risen a whopping 790 percent since 1980, fromPrison Blacks about 25,000 inmates to 219,000 in 2012.

Our federal prison population has outpaced most other first world nations and doesn’t show any signs of decreasing. The agency which prepared the report attributes the increased prison population to mandatory minimum sentences, the elimination of parole for any federal crime committed after 1987, and increasing enforcement by federal officials:

Research by the Urban Institute found that increases in expected time served contributed to half of the prison population growth between 1998 and 2010.The increase in amount of time inmates were expected to serve was probably partially the result of inmates receiving longer sentences and partially the result of inmates being required to serve approximately 85% of their sentences after Congress eliminated parole for federal prisoners.

These antiquated rules for imprisoning criminals, especially as it relates to nonviolent offenders, don’t decrease crime. They do, however, increase the expense for the federal government.

The CRS report encourages Congress to consider repealing or reducing mandatory minimums, repealing federal criminal statutes, and expanding early release and probation programs. Many states, such as South Carolina, have saved millions of dollars by putting non-v*****t criminals on probation instead of locking them up, where they have to be housed and fed. But the federal government has yet to follow suit.

actually Elizabeth their is no such thing as a stupid pill, only smart pills
and the smart ones are hard to find. You know the popular saying”stuff
happens” ?Stupidity is the same way cause STUPIDITY IS VERY CONTAGIOUS.
So let’s put things in proper perspective…… Those brothers are in prison because nobody had any smart pills left over to share with them.

Yea ,you might be partially right about companionship. The average black ma craves companionship.Unfortunatley nowadays if you don’t have a job or hustle….. then the sisters won’t give you no play…. just turn you away,no I’m not trying to say that’s how the brothers turn gay. It’s just that it’s a human thing not to wan’t to be alone…….cause God made us that way. So the next time you see a X con thug, just give him a sisterly hug and that will sweep his prison mentality under the rug

This happens when people take a stupid pill where it makes them crave jail and the companionship of each other.

    Plain nasty and sick.

C’mon let’s face it.It is so obvious.America was kind enough to give the Indians reservations with a liqour store in every every other tee-pee on their reservation as their reparation for the attempted assassination of their race

The Blacks who were brought here and used without compensation received
their reparation (40 ounces and a fool )and have their occupation by incarceration with their colonization on the new plantation…..called prison
Exact same method of operation that they gave as reparations to the American Indians?
