A 21 year old Chicago man has been charged with fatally shooting 18 year old Janay McFarlane last Friday, on the very same day her sister attended President Obama’s anti-gun violence speech in Chicago.
Jim McPherson is charged with murder, armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance, according to police. His bail has been set at $3 million dollars. Police have also confirmed that they are interviewing a second person with regards to the murder as well.
The Chicago Tribune reports interviews an eyewitness who puts McPherson at the scene of the crime:
McFarlane, from Chicago, was s**t at about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 1300 block of Jackson Avenue in the northern suburb.
Lake County State’s Attorney Michael Nerheim said McFarlane was walking with two friends to John’s Liquor and Mini Mart near the corner of Jackson and 14th streets when they saw McPherson staring at them. Shortly after leaving the convenience store, they heard gunshots, Nerheim said.
“There was talk of a stare-down, or some type of minor confrontation at the liquor store,” Nerheim said. “They heard gun shots, they took cover, the victim tragically was s**t in the head.”
Police found a .44-caliber gun, a 9mm gun, scales, and baggies that tested positive for cocaine while searching McPherson’s home.
McFarlane’s mother says one of her daughter’s friends may have been the intended victim.
McFarlane was killed a few hours after her sister, Destini Warren, attended President Obama’s gun violence speech. Warren is reportedly taking her sister’s d***h very hard.
