NBA Union Head Placed on Indefinite Leave, Is there a Racial Double Standard at Work?

billy-hunter

Billy Hunter has been placed on indefinite leave as executive director of the NBA player’s association after a report was released that questioned his leadership.  The review was requested by Derek Fisher, president of the association, after he accused Hunter of mismanagement of union funds.

The report found no illegal activity on the part of Hunter, but did question some of his decisions, including his decision to hire family members.  Fisher says “immediate change is necessary,” and Union attorney Ron Klempner has been appointed activing executive director.

But some are charging that a double standard might be playing a part in the decision of NBA leadership to want Hunter out of his post.  While nepotism is one of the primary charges of those who criticize Hunter, there are numerous examples of white managers in the NBA who’ve also hired family members to important positions.  Also, the report on Hunter that questioned his decision to hire family members doesn’t claim that players lost money as a result of the decision.

Etan Thomas, an NBA free agent who is respected among the other players in the league, says that Hunter should be given an opportunity to share his side of the story with players during All-Star Weekend, so that players themselves can decide the future of the union.

“The players need to hear from both sides Billy Hunter & Derek Fisher should both be able to present their cases then the players vote,” said Thomas on his Twitter page.

  1. The incident, described by three former senior U.S. intelligence officials, might have been dismissed as just another cloak-and-dagger incident in the world of international espionage, except that the same thing had happened to the previous station chief in Israel.

My question is was there something in Hunter’s contract thst says he can’t hire family members??? My only concern would be if the family member he hired wasn’t qualified for the position. But white do hire their friends and family members just because and most of the time they don’t qualify for the position. But that is a problem in corporate america and I have experienced it and see it. So why are they questioning his hiring of his family members??? Were they not the right person for the job?? There are double standards in America. Blacks are mostly the ones who end up on the wrong side of those decisions. When I worked I see the favortism for the person that is constantly asking questions but they’re in the hire position because they know the person in charge. I figured they gave you the job and you need to do it don’t ask me for help. I do think they need to dig deeper into this situation before they go passing judgement. I don’t think though that if Hunter was white he would have been put on leave.

If 80% of the NBA players are Afrikans they should form and own their own league. This is what Marcus Garvey meant by SELF-RELIANCE.Stop the racist club owners from living like parasites off our players.

True. The Afrikans have been the majority for a number of years now and they should have come up with the idea long ago.

    Nothing but the truth;
You nor anyone have all of the facts!

Even though blacks make up 80% of the player, you make a grave error thinking they have power, what they have is a contract, no play no pay! The owners are wealthy and will not be hurting. Surely you recognize how badly the player manage their money (generally speaking).

Another problem we suffer from is working from an emotional reference rather than from facts!

First things first, ask Mr. Hunter whats up!

What percentage of NBA players are African Americans? Answer: 80 percent! Nobody practices nepotism like those white devils, and especially the white male devils! There is nothing wrong with Billy Hunter hiring his African-American family, just like the white devils hire their white devils family members! African-Americans need jobs too! Since the NBA is 80% African-American, the executive director of the NBA Players’ Association should always be African-American! White boys are “the minorities” there! Just imagine the NBA without its African-American players! We have players’ power and we must begin to exercise that power to control those entities where we are the undeniable super majority! Apply the LeBron James Rule in all of our dealings with these white boys from this point forward! Keep Billy Hunter in his job too!

Those white devils you speak of own the teams, therefore they can hire whoever they want.

Hunter doesn’t own the players union..he merely represent the players and should have known hiring family would was a bad idea and would raise questions from his detractors.

This has nothing to do with double standards or race, you don’t hire family when trust is paramount in you keeping your job with the players.

Shame on whoever wrote this article and inserted race into the conversation. Hunter nor the players union mentioned race or double standards, stop playing into racism when it’s unfounded.
