Kwame KilpatrickBy Victor Trammell

Kwame Kilpatrick (pictured), former Mayor of Detroit declined the opportunity to testify in his own defense Wednesday at his corruption trial. The trial has lasted for 70 days and Wednesday marked the final day of the prosecution presenting evidence against Kilpatrick.

At his trial, Kilpatrick told the presiding judge that he understood his right to testify in his own defense. However, Kilpatrick said that he would not take the opportunity to do so. Kilpatrick’s father, Bernard Kilpatrick also passed on the opportunity to testify in defense of his son. Bobby Ferguson, a friend of the former mayor informed the court that he would not testify as well.

Wow Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick…what a waste of so many opportunities. The fact the you are not defending yourself against what people have charged you with explains so much. You are nothing but a poverty pimp or snake oil saleman probably taught these skills by the men close to you.
Your behavior is unforgiveable from a city that was on the brink of economic crisis. You pushed the city of Detroit over the edge into an abyss of which will take years to recover from. You have leveraged the city of Detroit’s future for your own selfish and immediate gratification. While I think you will probably not be convicted as you should…you are still a LOSER and a JERK!!! I could care less of your IVY LEAGUE credentials. To me, you are an IVY LEAGUE criminal who deserves to suffer the same way you have forced the city of Detroit to suffer; in crisis, humiliated, tattered, broke, and unable to get on your feet for a long time.
