Jaylen Price is making a full recovery at m***t Sinai Hospital after he was s**t while tossing a football outside his Chicago home. Although doctors may be forced to operate to remove the bullet, Price doesn’t seem all that concerned.
“He’s not talking about it, he’s 10,” said his mother LaShondra Jones. “He’s talking about getting back to school. He does tumbling, he plays tackle football. He wants to go back to those kinds of things.”
Young Jaylen was enjoying the warm weather outside with friends and siblings when shots rang out.
“They were just playing in front of the house, waiting on the pizza man,”said the boy’s uncle, Alvin Ponder. “Before he’s out there five minutes, boom. . . That’s all the time they had been out there. Down the block, some guys got into an argument and the gunfire broke out. It ricocheted off a lamppost, I believe it was.”
One witness, Maria Naylor, says she heard a gunshot and then saw that the young boy had been s**t and was holding his side.
“He was very brave,” said Naylor. “He kept saying, ‘Miss Marie, I want my mama.’ I say, ‘She coming.’”
Witnesses say shots were fired after two men began to argue over a gun.
“He (Jaylen) was running away from all the gunfire, everybody was running away back into the house,” Ponder continued. “He’s a good kid, he’s in all kinds of sports programs and he was getting ready to go in one. He can’t go to it now because his injury has to heal.”
Jones said she’s upset by the situation but happy her child is recovering.
“I’m glad my child recovered, it could have been worse. It’s a pain he has to endure,” Jones said.
