Former NYC State Sen. Shirley Huntley Sentenced to 1 Year and 1 Day in Jail

The state senator who was accused of paying for spa treatments for her poodle with taxpayer money was sentenced to one year and shirley huntleyone day in prison on Thursday.

Ex. state Senator Shirley Huntley, who wore a wire for the FBI to record her colleagues, was sentenced to jail for using the money from a non-profit she controlled for personal gain.

Before sentencing Huntley, 74,  asked the judge for a second chance, saying “I am requesting that you give me another chance. I vow to spend my remaining years to redeem myself in the eyes of those I have embarrassed.”

The judge said he had no choice but to give her jail time “because the law expects the highest honesty from elected officials.”

Last year Huntley agreed to wear a wire for the FBI after she was confronted about her own wrongdoing. She invited colleagues to her home where she recorded them admitting corruption. Both Sens. Malcolm Smith (D-Queens) and John Sampson (D-Brooklyn  were recorded and  later arrested.

Huntley admitted to falsifying documents relating to the non-profit she co-founded in an effort to cover up theft. Huntley backdated a document to reflect that  an event was held for her non-profit, Parent Workshop Inc., when in fact, no such event ever took place. Huntley was arrested and charged with evidence tampering, conspiracy in the fifth degree, and falsifying business records

The jail time she received was the minimum under the law, which means Huntley could be out by February.

….And when will we stop adding to the slippery slope of everything requiring a prison sentence !!!. Stop supporting this BS. Prison should be reserved for only those cases where we must, due to no other alternative, remove someone v*****t from society for the safety of others. All else requires justice as healing, community wellness and restoration.

The real in justice her is that she did’t want to take responsibility for her mistake. She gets in front of the and judge and ask for a second chance. She didn’t have to set her colleagues up. she should have taken her hits when she got caught

74 yrs old sentenced for one year she’d probably do seven mos mos., But AA political representatives are dropping like flies due to funding investigations,.. That’s AA (democrat) representatives during OBAMA’S administration ., 2014′s mid-term elections is subject to result into more conservative policy byway of the OBama administration… Every draft of the conservative agenda materialized throughout the Bush/Obama administrations and the investigations of AA democrat reps leave the doors wide open for future conservative policies onto the mid-terms and the next presidential election… My grievance isn’t about defending these greedy, sloppy selfish sellouts who are betraying the trust of their constituency … It’s that AA representatives aren’t fighting back & they’re definitely aren’t the only representatives robbing the tax payers blind…

Shameful! If the allegations are true, she is then just another individualist whose sole objective is to profit at the expense of others.

Race has nothing to do with being a d**n crook. We elected her to represent us, not steal from us. Those of you that are making this a racial issue, seems to be saying that it is OK to be a crook as long as you are Black, because the white people do it. We are not white, and the majority of us are not crooks. This senator, and those other crooked politicians, should receive at least 20 years in prison, and their pensions should be terminated. I don’t want anyone, especially those that look, and supposedly represent me, to be involve in anything dishonest.

Say it’s not racial?., Then could you say its political.., Investigations are right down the Republicans alley … South Carolina just proved that political blinders are being used to further the conservative agender.., And Obama’s still not powering up his congressional favor inlight of these investigations.., That’s senate or congress.., Let alone even seen in a picture with another AA political representative .. WONDER WHYY?… Beyonce doesn’t count., Talking about winning some political gain for his constituency (democrat) BUDGET WISE!! for once …

Why are so many black politicians getting into trouble? This makes me so angry. There is no excuse. I don’t care if they’re more heavily scrutinized. They are elected officials and they were elected to represent the people, not take advantage of them. This is so unfair to blacks with integrity who inspire to run for office. We have got to do better.

We are so busy trying to be like our euro counter parts in every way. We have let down the values and morals that we once were taught and if we had nothing else we had intergity its lost.
