Inmate Forced to Give Birth in a Toilet; CCA Prisons Being Sued for Widespread Abuse

dsopopsdopsdComplaints of abuse, neglect and fraud in the way Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) handles issues within America’s prison system has caused them to lose four prison contracts recently.

According to reports, CCA has turned Idaho’s largest state prison into what has been referred to by inmates as “Gladiator School.”

The state of Idaho has now c*t ties with CCA after reports of understaffing at its prison and the use of gangs to control other inmates.

Apparently, in order to get more money from the state, CCA falsified security staffing hours and claimed for almost 4,800 hours of security detail work that had not been done.

CCA reportedly submitted false paperwork to the state in order to receive compensation, which showed that the same security guards had worked for two or three days without a break.

Another two prisons in Texas that are also under the control of CCA, have been closed due to reports of suspicious deaths of inmates.  At one of the prisons, a woman had to give birth to a baby in a prison toilet because the prison staff ignored her pleas for help. The baby died after four days.

Mississippi also k****d CCA out of their prisons because of a series of deadly riots, lack of prison sanitation and medical care, abuse by the guards and atrocious food given to the inmates.

However, MTC, the company that Mississippi has chosen to take over the CCA contract, also ran another prison which has the highest reports of inmate assaults in the entire state.

CCA is not the first private company to be booted out in Mississippi.  The state also got rid of the GEO Group when it was found guilty of turning a youth detention facility into a “cesspool of unconstitutional and inhuman acts.”

Even with all this, the state of Mississippi is still not about to give up on private prisons completely.

This is not the first time that CCA has landed in hot water over their control of private prisons. There are lawsuits filed against the CCA in every state in which they operate.

In Colorado, a lawsuit over prison abuses was settled by CCA paying $600,000 in compensation.  In Ohio, CCA has failed several audits of its books because of filthy and overcrowded facilities.

Those in favor of private prisons say that it will help states who don’t have the money to run state prisons. However, far from saving these states money, some private prisons, including those run by CCA, have been caught overcharging states by millions of dollars.

CCA seems to have made a killing from the prison industry. In 2000, CCA was on the brink of bankruptcy, but has reportedly netted profits in excess $162 million in 2011 alone.  Incarceration is becoming a path to wealth for shareholders in this company.

I am not surprised at this but more facts should be revealed to gain a more accurate picture of the systemic abuse by CCA.

As for the prisoner who gave birth in a toilet –

She was more than likely raped by a prison guard.I seriously doubt that she went to prison pregnant.

I don’t care what kind of crime sends a person to prison, they are still human beings!

This is why the recidivism rate for ex-convicts is so high! They are treated as less than human, and they see themselves that way.

They used to be “correctional institutions”. If you do a crime, there is punishment for it, but every person deserves humane treatment, even murderers. There had to be something wrong in an inmate’s socialization that created the criminal tendencies.

These people need help, not abuse!

I cant help but wonder what it would have been like if there had never been any such thing as slavery and every one would have been entitled to buy land equally for 1,500 dollars back in the day, and where families had never been torn apart by German and Irish slavers who lived on something for nothing. What would it be like if you were able to speak your own language and keep your own name and choose your own religion even? What would it be like if you could legally educate your own children, I wonder. What would this world have been without the drug war and every one would have had healthcare?

It pretty simple!!!!! If you do not do dumb s**t to land in prison, then you would not be a victim of such abuse. I feel no pity at all for these inmates.

If you, yourself, are ever arrested and the police, themselves, are allowed within the justice system to lie on you, get back at us? OK?

In June 2006, the Institute of Medicine recommended an increase in the use of prisoners as biomedical test subjects after laboratory scientists complained of a shortage of rhesus monkeys.

The South Carolina Senate has considered legislation that would take up to 180 days off prisoners’ sentences if they donated an organ.

Wow, we discuss this every morning on the air to inform the public about private prison and how they are selling inmates on the stock market. How your legislators are criminalizing everything in order to make a profit off of human labor. People really do not have a clue as to what is going on or the difference between Public and Private. tune in Mon-Fri 8am to 12pm on High Frequency Radio!

You can’t fight a new kind of w.a.r., or a new kind of enemy, with old weapons. You need a new strategy to fight this new enemy. Marching is good for what it’s good for, but it won’t be what wins the fight against the latest tool of oppression that is currently defeating the black family unit.

Which is why black politicians seem to be getting targeted for investigations at alarming rates. In order to have any chance at winning this latest battle, you need someone at the table who is looking out for your best interest. You need someone at the table, ie an elected official, who will vote in your best interest on things like new laws that get proposed.

DIVEST! DIVEST! Just as was done in the case of Apartheid South Africa, those who rely on an industry that traffics in imprisonment of the human body, mind and spirit while supporting all forms of degradation and abuse MUST DIVEST. This form of apartheid and slavery that disproportionately affects the diaspora of Black peoples as 1) Black people do not control the arrest/charging & sentencing structure that sends them to prison 2)Black people are more like to be charged for less crimes than those who DO CONTROL the sentencing and incarceration system 3) Those who control this system are also the ones more likely TO BE IN A financial position TO INVEST IN PRIVATE PRISONS THRU THE STOCK MARKET AND OTHER AVAILABLE ECONOMIC INSTRUMENTS. Just as other methods and technologies and methods morph and evolve over time, the process of enslaving and maintaining apartheid practices morphs and “evolving” as well. Chattel slavery is no longer needed when there are all these other “high tech” ways of maintaining the system of enslavement.

IF ANYONE THINKS THE MANAGEMENT AND TRAINING CORPORATION(MTC) IS GOING TO RUN THE PRISONS BETTER MUST BE JOKING. THIS CORPORATION IS NO BETTER THAN CCA FROM WHOM IT GOT CONTRACTS TO RUN OTHER PRISONS. ALL ONE HAS TO DO IS RESEARCH MTC’S PRISON RECORD. OF COURSE WHEN YOU HAVE A SENATOR FROM UTAH RUNNING INTERFERENCE FOR YOU, YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING.

bOYCE, DO THE RESEARCH ON MTC AND SEE WHAT YOU FIND!!

This is gonna cause all h**l to break lose but here goes…One reason inmates cannot cast ballots and vote in elections while incarcerated is that when the do the crime, are found guilty and incarcerated they HAVE NO RIGHTS. Don’t do the crime = maintain your rights as a citizen of the free world. Do the crime = you get what you got. If we thought like this more…the crime rate would plummet.

Black people should not get tricked into debating the issues of private or state or federally run prisons for they are all a scheme to oppress Black people and steal their labor. That’s been the case since the beginning of slavery. That’s not to say that places for detention are not necessary but on the scale that exists today, it is an instrument of coercion mainly reserved for Black and other oppressed people. People don’t usually commit crime except when in need and when the social structure breeds pathology.Did we have masses of people in prison before the advent of slavery? The solution to the prison/industrial complex is ultimately the complete overhaul of this society. Which means struggle on all levels. If one is not willing to discuss it on that level then one might as well do as Obomber is doing, just ignore it as long as possible.

Not surprised at all. These prisons are the reason there are so many young people (especially Black men) are serving outrageous sentences for petty crimes like possession of marijuana. the prisons get paid. Until a lot of white kids begin to do large prison sentences for petty crimes, there will be no outrage. But, we as a people, have to learn that this game is played (historically speaking) in so many different ways and we fall for it each time.
