Al Sharpton Gets Interviewed by Don Cornelius at the Age of 19 (Video)

al sharpton speaks with don cornelius at the age of 19

Don Cornelius, founder of the television show, “Soul Train,” died this morning in an apparent suicide.  Rev. Al Sharpton issued a statement about the death of Cornelius this morning:

“I am shocked and grief stricken by the reported news of the suicide of Don Cornelius, the creator of Soul Train. I have known him since I was19-years-old and James Brown had me speak on Soul Train. We have maintained a friendship for the last 38-years. He brought soul music and dance to the world in a way that it had never been shown and he was a cultural game changer on a global level. Had it not been for Don Cornelius we would not have ever transcended from the Chitlin circuit to become mainstream cultural trendsetters.”

  1. Its such as you read my thoughts! You appear to understand so much about this, like you wrote the guide in it or something. I think that you just can do with a few p.c. to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, that is excellent blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.

  2. Royal ce moment passez a vous lire, je vous remercie beaucoup pour cette bonne lecture.

  3. Don Cornelius was a Super Promoter for many African American entertainers: for many youth who later went into the entertainment field; for Promoting our culture & providing a safe & fun thing to do on Saturdays when Soul Train was broadcasted.

We need to show a big Thank You for the street named after him in Chicago. I was present for the Soul Train Celebration when Mr. Cornelius was honored with the street named after him. He was deeply moved & was speechless for his honor; saying I have never had this honor before.

Join Chicago Chapter, N’COBRA Sunday, February 26th @Washington Park Fieldhouse, 5531 S King Drive, 2pm – 4 pm as we highlight Don Cornelius & others who have joined the ancestors.

  4. Time brings about a change.

  5. Thank God for the life and legacy of Don Cornelius. I will absolutely treasure the surprise phone call I got from him and almost hour long conversation we had regarding the 40th Year Anniversary of SOUL TRAIN. What a sad way to start Black History Month with the loss of another Black History legend, but treasure the positive impact that he and SOUL TRAIN will forever be in our history. Thank you Don. There are a lot of people like me who absolutely love and thank you for what you meant to us personally and as a people. He was going through a lot of pain from multiple serious health issues. Don Cornelius was found dead this morning allegedly from a self inflicted gunshot wound. May God show his grace and mercy and welcome him with love, peace, and soul. And his hometown Chicago will never forget the memories left from his last appearance here for the 40th Year Anniversary of Soul Train concert and events. Glad his pain is over so lets rejoice in a legacy of good memories
