What's Happening In Your World
Rep. Allen West put it all on the line when he was running for re-election in Florida. Sadly, it is hard to control exactly what you’re putting on the line when running for political office. As the campaign got nastier, much of the Florida Republican’s past was dug up and used against him. There was an ad that talked about how he had previously faced 11 years of jail time for “illegal acts” while in the military and at some point his opponent stooped low enough to release a letter than he wrote to his wife, “demanding s*x” . In the last few days before the election, West is reported to have spent as much money in just those few days as his opponent spent for his whole campaign and he still lost. According to federal reports filed on Thursday, West spend a total of $18.1 million in his 2012 -re-election campaign, while his opponent, Patrick Murphy, only spent $4.2 million. Between October 18 and November 26, Murphy spent $4.1 million, which was just shy of Murphy’s entire campaign spending. Murphy, who is a young 29-year-old construction company executive who was running for his first political office this year, spent $880,000 during the period of time that West spent over $4 million. West reportedly still has $1.5 million left in campaign funds. There has been some talk that West should run in his home state of Georgia so maybe all is not lost for him.
