What's Happening In Your World
by John Roberts Technology is allowing people to express their bizarre desires in some interesting ways. Now parents who are expecting a child do not have to wait until after it’s birth to hold it, thanks to a new invention. Japanese inventors have created a three-dimensional fetus model, so parents who want to hold their unborn child can do so. The designers take the ultrasound image and create an identical resin replica of their fetus. The resin fetus is encased in a transparent block that takes the shape of the mother’s body. The white fetus is surprisingly detailed, even if it is only 3.6 inches in size. The models sell for over $1,000 a piece, so seeing your unborn baby is going to cost you. FASOTEC calls its new product the “Shape of an Angel” model. Their product even comes in key chain size, so you can take the fetus everywhere that you go. Tomohiro Kinoshita, who works for FASOTEC says, ”As it is only once in a lifetime that you are pregnant with that child, we received requests for these kind of models from pregnant women who… do not want to forget the feelings and experience of that time.” FASOTEC is a company that usually creates three-dimensional prints. They are also known for making three-dimensional organs for hospitals. Doctors and medical students can use their products while they are in training and to better explain conditions to patients. Resin is similar enough to real bone and organs, so this is what makes the fetus look and feel like the real thing. So how did they do it? Three-dimensional printers create layers that are stacked on top of each other to render an object, quite similar to how ink is layered on paper to create a two-dimensional image.  Maybe this is the next step in the evolution of video games as well.  Welcome to a brave new world.
