Common Discusses His New Album, Movie, And How He Is Combatting Violence in Chicago

commonChi-town MC Common hits the Hot 97 Morning radio station and talks about life in Hollywood and in the studio.  Recently, Common had just finished working on a new movie called “Selma” which is about winning the voting rights in the 1965 Civil Rights period.  It was produced by Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt and it should be dropping in Christmas.  He talks about a new album he’s working on as well.  The interview spreads and covers a whole bunch of topics, from beef with Drake to falling in love with Erykah Badu.  One of the main things that Common addresses is the struggles in Chicago today.

The conversation about Chicago really starts after the freestyling on a beat produced by No I.D.  It branches off into discussing the interview with a newer rapper named Lil Bibby and how he mentioned “no hope” in the hood of Chicago.  Chicago has been named the most dangerous place in America to live, (hence the name “Chiraq”).  Interestingly enough, when asked if he knew who Common was, Lil Bibby had no idea.

Common responded “Well I know him, and I’m reaching out to them because that’s the future.  And I want them to know I’m not trying to separate myself from them and if I can help in any way.
