What's Happening In Your World
by Dr. Boyce Watkins Since President Obama was elected with 93% of the black vote, there is now a conversation regarding how to leverage unprecedented political support in order to receive the attention from the Obama Administration that such support deserves.   The Associated Press wrote about the matter this week, quoting Rev. Al Sharpton, NAACP President Ben Jealous and National Urban League President Marc Morial along the way. “I think the president heard us loud and clear. The collective message was, ‘Let’s build on where we already are,’” said Rev. Al Sharpton. Sharpton then continued to speak to the need to “help the black community” by fighting to support President Obama by averting the pending crisis on the fiscal cliff. Ben Jealous was also quoted, saying the following: “We need Republicans to think hard and to pull back from the cliff 98 percent of our families, who make up the bulk of this nation, from seeing our taxes being raised,” Jealous said. Marc Morial took the conversation in a different direction.  Rather than simply repeating the agenda of the Obama Administration and pretending that it is the same as the black agenda, Morial actually spoke to the issues that affect the black community directly.  He spoke about a jobs plan for urban areas that have been hardest hit by the recession as part of the path to a full economic recovery.  While banks, corporations and white Americans have seen their economic condition improve a great deal over the last four years, due to direct capital injections from Washington, black Americans are facing unemployment rates that would be entirely unacceptable for any other group. In the context of his request for a jobs program, Morial specifically stated that the programs should be implemented “with a special focus on those communities where unemployment is and remains stubbornly and persistently high.” “We who represent the nation’s urban communities will demand a seat at the table in these discussions,” he also wrote in his letter. Do you notice the difference in leadership here?  The first two men, Al Sharpton and Ben Jealous, sound like defacto employees of the Obama Administration, as if they are punching a time clock and picking up a check at the end of the day.  The easiest way to manipulate someone with a feeble mind is to give them your idea and make them think that it’s their own.  While Sharpton and Jealous are certainly intelligent men, their “special gifts” and validation from the White House have led them to dumb themselves down to the administration’s wishes, like an abused wife standing behind her man under any circumstances.  This is, quite honestly, just shameful and depletes both men of the credibility necessary to engage in legitimate leadership. Morial, on the other hand, has served as nothing less than a textbook example of how to play the political game at the top.  Morial has preserved his access to the White House by not presenting himself as an adversary to a popular president.  At the same time, he’s never said anything to indicate that he is a water boy for the administration.  Morial has kept his agenda clear and non-partisan, reaching out to leaders from both major parties and all branches of government, with the expectation that the focus is going to remain on urban communities.  Morial doesn’t even force Barack to say the word “black” and has given him enough evasive language to allow him to help his most loyal constituents without worrying about what some bigot is going to think about it. It saddens me to see our most powerful civil rights leaders bowing to a racist American power structure by giving Democratic leaders carte blanche to leave the black community in ruins.  It’s oddly ironic that nearly every word that comes out of the mouths of Sharpton and Jealous is in complete lockstep with whatever talking points they’ve received from Valerie Jarrett and the White House.   This is not leadership – this is followership, and Jealous has unfortunately tarnished the already fragile reputation of the NAACP by allowing his work for the president to override his interest in protecting African American people.  I am not one to say that Sharpton and Jealous don’t deserve a seat at the table, but I can certainly say that they should not possess most of those seats.  These White House meetings with President Obama have as much credibility as a group of white managers meeting to plan Black History Month.  Their incentives are as polluted as the Hudson River, and the greatest victim of this high-level civil rights corruption is the African American community itself. When these meetings at the White House occur, they should include at least some of the following people:  Marc Morial, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Dr. Wilmer Leon and perhaps even Father Michael Pfleger.  Rev. Jackson’s 40 years of service cannot be erased by any president (black, white or bi-racial) and the White House decision to freeze out one of our most storied civil rights leaders is nothing short of the most blatant and disrespectful display of counter-productive cronyism.  The Obama Administration refuses to deal with Jesse Jackson because they don’t want to have to answer hard questions from a leader that wouldn’t so easily fit into their pockets. Dr. Julianne Malveaux, as an MIT educated economist has the expertise necessary to engage in serious conversations about black unemployment.   At least I speculate that she knows more about the topic than a preacher with a perm.  Dr. Wilmer Leon has taught classes on how the presidency works, and would therefore be able to make recommendations that are reasonable and fair to President Obama.  Father Michael Pfleger is a long-time friend of the Obama’s, as well as Valerie Jarrett, and has shown a consistent commitment to solving problems that were previously deemed to be unsolvable (note that he single-handedly produced a significant reduction in gang violence by bringing the gangs together for a Peace Basketball Tournament). If the White House is going to gain any significant credibility in their alleged commitment to African American people, they have to take these cupcake meetings off the agenda and start doing things of real substantive value.  We tried the Sharpton-Jealous-Morial-Obama meetings over the last four years and black unemployment continued to grow to the crisis levels that they’ve reached today.  We’ve also seen no significant advances in the epidemics of mass incarceration or urban violence, proving beyond any reasonable doubt, that these meetings have been highly ineffective.  When one coaching staff can’t win games, you replace it with another.  We can’t afford to drag our feet while millions of families are suffering and children are dying in the streets. The Obama Administration spent millions of dollars begging black people to stand in line and vote.  They asked us to have their backs and we put it on the line unlike any other demographic in America.  Now that we’ve shown the courage necessary to endure the political backlash of standing up for the White House to get another four years, it’s time for Obama and his team to return the favor.  Anything else would be unethical. Dr. Boyce Watkins: Obama Keeps Inviting Unproductive “Black Leaders” to the White House

by Dr. Boyce Watkins

Since President Obama was elected with 93% of the black vote, there is now a conversation regarding how to leverage unprecedented political support in order to receive the attention from the Obama Administration that such support deserves.  The Associated Press wrote about the matter this week, quoting Rev. Ben Jealous was also quoted, saying the following:

  1. I have asked some Blacks why they voted for Obama. I have gotten responses such as: "Well, at least we have a "Black face" in the White House. How uninformed and stupid is that answer? Very. Also, after interviewing some young Black Obama voters, I learned that these voters are very informed. When asked if they knew that Obama bombed Libya, and killed millions of Libyans and their leader, they said no. When asked if they knew that Obama said that he did not represent Blacks, they said no.

    • Your interview seems to have been short-sighted and biased, as evidenced by your "Obama said that he did not represent Blacks" comment. Totally taken out of context. What you, Boyce, and Michael Callion seem to miss is that HEALTHCARE IS FOR US, FIXING TAXES IS FOR US. Incarceration starts at home, that is called "responsibility to self". Unemployment: 300 MILLION MANUFACTURING JOBS IN THE U.S. UNFILLED BECAUSE THERE ARE NO SKILLED WORKERS! Unemployment offices offer training, they offer to help with schooling. WE AS A PEOPLE HAVE TO STAND ON OUR OWN TWO FEET NOW!! WHY THE HELL are we the only people who think because there is a Black man in office, that he needs to "speak to our needs"? We can vote, we can live where we want, we can work where we want, say what we want because WE ALREADY HAVE PROTECTION OF THE LAW. Gays and immigrants aren't being afforded the same thing. IF WE DON'T STOP THE OPPRESSION OF GAYS AND IMMIGRANTS IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THEY START IN ON US! We need to USE WHAT WE HAVE AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT INSTEAD OF SITTING BACK AND BITCHING ABOUT IT. So Patricia, Boyce, and Michael, when the three of you join forces with Smiley and West; start your campaigns; win office; AND PROVE YOU CAN DO WHAT OBAMA "SHOULD" BE DOING take a seat and conduct your cult meetings among yourselves.

  2. Why are you guys attacking Dr. Watkins? He loves black people, and he is tired of seeing his people at the bottom being neglected. Obama doesn't care about black people. He doesn't believe that black people should get reparations for the 300 years of hell that our people went thru in America and he doesn't believe in affirmative action either which could help leverage the playing field for us. Obama doesn't even consider us his brothers, but he considers gays and hispanics his brothers. Obama has done a lot to address their issues, but he refuses to acknowledge or look at our issues.

    • I assume this is your opinion because I have never heard President Obama publicly say any of the statements you made in your post. And on Boyce Limbaugh loving black people..are you saying he love black people over the money he is generating from his 3 sites? In my opinion, Boyce loves the money and is using the love of black people to get paid. Peace…

  3. Did those whining about President Obama ever sent resumes to him? I guess not. I have said before if you believe you are smart, cares President Obama succeeds; cares you can help Black community, please send your resume to him. If you doubt your resume will be lost please take to directly to NAACP CEO Jealous of Rev. Al Sharpton. They have easy access to President Obama. These will take your resume directly to President Obama. Please calm down and take this action before 2016. We don’t know who will come next.

  4. You Black folks who voted for Obama, and who keep voting for these other Black politicians, are getting what you always get from these so-called "Black" politicians, NOTHING. It is time for Black folks to sit down among themselves and decide what they want from these Blacks that we elect. There is no need to go to these so-called "Black leaders". I think that they have sold out Black folks, and the only deals that they bring to the Black politician's bargaining table are "what they want for their own pockets".

    • When you get into a federal office and prove your worth, then the rest of us MAY take you seriously.

  5. Get over it Boyce, you will never get invited to the White house, nor will you ever get your own show. No one respects, nor recognize you as a leader of our people, and everyone knows that you are a paid informant for the republican tea baggers. You are not even qualified to teach at Syracuse university. The only reason why they haven’t fired you, is because they fear you will scream racism. You are best suited, for cleaning the toilets at Mitt Romney’s house, and that is where you should be invited.

  6. Codrington C. Dapp

    Stop hatin’ on Obama, dude.

  7. Keep the pressure on Dr. Watkins for Mr. Obama’s accountability to Black folk’s that pave the way to the White House with their blood; a path on which he walks daily. Last week the Congessional Hispanic Caucus held a national press conference to remind the President that for their vote, they are preparing their Political Invoice for payment. Black folks who made it possible for the economic gains and the political advancement of Hispanics in this nation must demand no less. Many of the Mindless Negroes responding to your “Call Out the President” articles are probably descendants from the same Negro Pastors and Civic Leaders that were stabbing Dr. King in the back, accusing Dr. King of stirring up trouble with his marches in the 50’s & 60’s to abolish racism’s Jim Crow. Sadly, throughout the history of Black America, Willie Lynch’s cups of KoolAid have proven more popular to Chicken George minded Negroes than the thirst for the truth.

  8. I believe that if the economy does fall off the cliff, it could be a good thing.Lot of what we spend billions of dollars on are just wasteful. The social welfare system need to be completely overall.
Many of these able body people collecting welfare should not remain on the system for support.
I lived in California for many years, and saw people coning into the United States, pregnant and going into hospitals to have their babies, those babies are United States Citizens. Those people never paid a dime into the system for their health care that they and their babies received. That cost is passed ont the American tax payers.
What is fair about that?.Look what has happened to the CXalifornia economy, it is now bankrupt. If this continue the entire nation will go the same way.Social Security and Medicare, is different, the tax payers paid in advance for those benefits, they are entitled to them. It’s owed to them, the government cannot renig on what these people have paid in advanced. The have a contract with the government for those services.

  10. Hey Boyce, you mad that President Obama, won’t invite you, and your republican teabagger stooges to the White house, for a free dinner? You are the scum of the earth, and do not represent black folk. So go back in your hole, and eat dirt.

  11. Boyce, pray tell!!! So you and your sidekicks were not invited so that makes those who were unworthy? Your unbridled hate for the President will destroy you. How many meetings dids you attend @ the White House when Bush was President? Clinton? Bush II? Find something constructive to offer and maybe someone will listen but all that you do is rant and rage about the President and your behavior is self-defeating.

I work with inmates and you act more like a victim that most of them. Grow the Hell Up. Your man lost!

  12. If this is so what are you Dr. Watkins doing about it? Cornel West, Jackson, Jealous, and Sharpton do not speak for me nor other Black/African Americans. To many of us have overlooked these clowns thinking they would fade away, they will not for the reason opportunist bask in their so-called fame.

Instead of challenging the White House the clowns should be so they can put-up or shut-up. Since the name Jackson came on the scene no one has really cared for him, he is a liar and cheat.

There are individuals in the community and local government that should push to give input at the White House. Blacks/African Americans are at time VERY PASSIVE, and to get things done real VOICES of the people needs to drown-out those scammers.

  13. Dr. Boyce is a player hating cock sucker.

  14. It is obvious this Watkin dude has no respect for AFRICAN AMERICANS,to continue to spew his disdain for president Obama. He reminds me of how BLACKS were portrayed in movies like gone with the wind. They were always wanting to be in charge and resented the blacks who was the designated leaders. He is the most educated, unintelligent BLACK man I've had the opportunity to read his ideas.Cornel West is a close second. We as a people have the opportunity to rally around the first nearly black person to be the President of the united states and we have a stupid professor at a major university, spewing poison about how the PRESIDENT has neglected to do anything for the AFRICAN AMERICANS, and how he invites the wrong black American to discuss the needs of African Americans. The fact he has the audacity to question a man of president Obama stature shows a sever lack of knowledge. This is called in some circles..an educated FOOL. This is the worst kind of BLACK man,one who has a degree in ignorance. The work MLK,the many before him and after is tarnished by those like you. IF you will check there was an election recently, and all bitching and moaning you and those few loser that (get off) by praising each other, hustling nickels and dime from the few misguided that try to listen for hope from you idiots. I suggest to you DR. BOP,If you lose that token position at that University you will see how little clout you have in any community. I bother to rebutt to you, only because I can,I can say to you, what the PRESIDENT does not have time to bother saying…PEACE

  15. Truthbeleiver…

You’ll get nary a reply…the defenders of “The People’s Scholar” cannot take anything away from what you just said…save a lesson.

  16. Boyce Watkins considers only himself to be productive. It’s very clear to those of us who work in the mental health arena, that Watkins has classic issues of displacement. He projects his fears/anxieties/dislikes/irrationalities onto those he admires for one reason or another, while telling himself that they are part of a much larger problem of discriminatory practices aimed at him. His clear-cut narcissism prompts him to think that he has more notoriety than he actually has and this causes him to think he is being slighted by the President (who clearly doesn’t even know he exists). You see, in Boyce Watkins’ twisted mind, President Obama should’ve acknowledged what he perceives as an injustice done to him by Syracuse University and should call upon him to lead a panel on inequities in tenure appointments in major universities. Watkins feels thoroughly slighted that though he has penned books giving financial advice, he has been overlooked by the elite. Watkins, in essence, feels that he should’ve been the first Black President of the United States- he actually feels he is more qualified than Presdient Obama. Watkins will never come to terms with himself as a race-baiter, disillusioned, bitter man. He will take every available opportunity to be disagreeable, angry, divisive and derogatory. Those who respect his skewed perspectives share his same character. Every column he writes displays even more anger, aggression, and childlike rantings than the previous one. It will just get worse as it usually does with attention-seekers. His greatest fear is that someday soon, no one will respond to his desperation.

  17. Maybe he's trying to inspire them, pls get off of Obama penis, please. Let the man breathe.

  18. You say Obama, just like white folks you have no respect for the man. It's President Obama! You say he keeps inviting unproductive “Black Leaders” to the White House. Apparently he considers you a no body and didn't listen to you in your first article..until you become the second black President of the US and get 93% of the black vote to give you authority to invite the blacks you want to the White House, then maybe it's time for you to move on and give it a rest.

  19. Who do you suggest? Yourself.

    • You got it..if you know Boyce and his arrogance, he should be the first on the list to receive an invite to the White House. Notice he is the only Negro worried about who is being invtied to the White House..hell he and the poverty pimps didn't even support the President and they want a free meal with the Prez off the backs of the taxpayers. lol..SMH

  20. What is going on with YBW for you to have to mislead the readers into visiting your site by changing the title on an article written months ago? Are you running out of ideas on how to get black folks in frenzy by bashing President Obama to generate traffic on your sites for profit? Could it be your hustle is coming to an end?
