What's Happening In Your World
What’s worse than a party pooper? A party crasher or in the case of this week’s episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta a “vacay” crasher. This week the ladies discussed taking a couple’s trip to Anguilla, during a brief get together. The vacation appeared to be the idea of Cynthia Bailey.  During the conversation, the “beauty queen” Kenya Moore, asked Bailey if she were invited.  When Cynthia neglected to respond, Kenya declared that she was inviting herself.  How rude? How confident? How awkward? How many of you have a Kenya in your life? How do you handle “friends” that invite themselves to events, functions, funerals or even assume the role as the spare tire on your date? While I can appreciate Cynthia’s approach of pleading the fifth, it is important to let those who opt to impose, know just where he or she stands. Whether they be friends or foes there is a diplomatic way to convey the message.  Here are my suggestions for the polite approach to a few awkward impositions: The Awkward Inquiry: “OMG, I heard you were getting married, when will you be sending out my invitation?” Suggested Response: “Yes, we are very excited about the big day, but it will likely be an intimate affair with just family as we are trying to save.” The Awkward Confrontation:  “I heard you had a party, but I didn’t receive an invite!” Suggested Response: “ Yes, I did have a party and I’m terribly sorry that you were not able to make it.” The Awkward Declaration: “Hey, I’m going to meet up with you and your friends for happy hour this Friday.” Suggested Response: “Oh girl, that’s next week. I’ll let you know where we decide to go.” Erika Morant is a Washington, DC area based Event Planner. Tell us about you, Click Here .
