Little Boy Imitates Dr. Martin Luther King with Black Face

Parents, educate your kids. A second-grade student at Meridian Ranch Elementary in Colorado Springs was taken out of class for painting his face black as a “tribute” to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sean King dressed up as King as part of a school project.

“It was wax museum day for the second-graders and each one dressed up as a historical figure they were assigned,” said Sean’s mother, Michelle King-Roca.

Sean’s mother said that her son was excited about the project.

“He said, ‘Mom, I want to wear a black suit because that’s what he wore, a black tie, a white shirt and also I want to do my face black and wear a mustache,” said King-Roca.

The boy’s parents came to school to watch their son do the presentation, but were a bit surprised to see the reaction.

FAMU Band Members Admit to Hazing Yet Another Student

Two Florida A&M band members pleaded no contest to misdemeanor hazing charges in the beating of a female clarinet player last year. One of the students was also charged in the felony hazing death of Robert Champion.

Aaron Golson, 19, and Sean Hobson, 23, are set to serve a year of probation in Georgia and report to jail work camp for one month. They were originally going to be charged with felonies after the hazing of 18-year old Bria Shante Hunter, a freshman. Hunter was trying to join a group of FAMU band members from Georgia called the “Red Dawg Order.”

The hazing incident took place three weeks before the death of Robert Champion on November 19 of last year. Champion died after being beaten on a bus headed to Orlando. A total of 11 band members have been charged with felony hazing in his death.

Police say that Hunter’s upper thighs were punched repeatedly and her upper legs were also hit with a metal ruler. She went to the hospital after she could no longer walk or climb stairs. Felony charges were initially filed because police thought her leg was broken. The charges were reduced when they found this to be untrue.

The students who were charged are going to be expelled from the university.

Autopsy: Drug THC Found in Trayvon Martin’s Blood

(CNN) – Trayvon Martin had drugs in his system when he was fatally shot earlier this year by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida, according to autopsy results released Thursday.

Martin’s blood contained THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to an autopsy conducted February 27 — the day after the teenager was shot dead.

Toxicology tests found elements of the drug in the teenager’s chest blood — 1.5 nanograms per milliliter of one type (THC), as well as 7.3 nanograms of another type (THC-COOH) — according to the medical examiner’s report. There was also a presumed positive test of cannabinoids in Martin’s urine. It was not immediately clear how significant these amounts were.

He died from a gunshot wounded to chest fired from “intermediate range,” according to the medical examiner’s report, which was one of several documents on the case released Thursday by the office of special prosecutor Angela Corey.

The autopsy report lists the manner of death as a homicide.

Zimmerman, 28, is charged with second-degree murder for killing Martin in the Sanford neighborhood where the African-American teen was staying.

Protesters Boycotting Hershey for Links to School that Rejected HIV Positive Child

Protesters are angry at Hershey for funding a school that rejected a 13-year old boy because he is HIV-positive. Activists have protested Milton Hershey School, located in Pennsylvania, which is a boarding school for low income students. Protesters in Chicago have gathered outside the Hershey store this month to fight against what they believe to be discrimination.

The group has a website asking people to boycott Hershey until the policy is changed.

In addition to protests held in Chicago, AIDS activists have staged protests in San Francisco, New York and Hershey, Pennsylvania.

“We are asking the public to send a clear message to Hershey that there are `No Kisses for Hershey’ as Hershey continues its path of discrimination and ignorance,” Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Milton Hershey attempted to defend the decision with this statement:

“We hope that fair-minded people also understand that we did not make this decision in ignorance, but that we looked at all the complicated issues surrounding our unique environment and made the decision we thought was best for our students,” said Connie McNamara, the school’s vice president for communications.

The AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania argues that the school has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by rejecting the boy for admission. The boy, whose name has not been released, is an honor roll student.

Ronda Goldfein, attorney for the AIDS Law Project, said she is not involved with the boycott effort but the protests have been a morale booster for the boy and his mother.

“For a 14-year-old to hear that he’s danger, he’s a threat, that has really been hard for him,” said Ronda Goldfein, attorney for the AIDS Law Project .
