John McCain to Colin Powell: ‘You Have Harmed Your Legacy’

John McCain Severly Criticizes Colin Powell For Endorsing President Obama For A Second Term

.

Sen. John McCain has been very vocal about his disappointment in former Secretary of State Colin Powell since Powell’s public endorsement of President Obama on a television show. McCain took to the Fox radio and television networks to reveal his disgrace in Powell’s legacy.

I’m just saddened because, you know, I used to be a great admirer of Colin Powell.,” McCain told the hosts of Fox News Radio’s Kilmeade & Friends. “We were friends. I think one of the sad aspects of his career is going to the United Nations Security Council and telling them things about Iraq that were absolutely false.” He continued: “All I can say is that Gen. Powell, you disappoint us and you have harmed your legacy even further by defending what has clearly been the most feckless foreign policy in my lifetime.”

On Friday, McCain continued his attacks on Powell during an interview with National Review Online, saying Powell is to blame for America’s War on Iraq. “Colin Powell, interestingly enough, said that Obama got us out of Iraq,” McCain said. “But it was Colin Powell, with his testimony before the U.N. Security Council, that got us into Iraq.” Huffington Post reports that Sen. McCain was an avid supporter of U.S. intervention in Iraq.  Powell has since expressed regret in his role in the escalation of the war on terror.

  1. Mr. Cain, get a life and get over yourself.

  2. Dude, you chose Caribou Barbie as a running mate. 'Nuff said!

  3. Is there anybody left in the rep.party with good sense?how in the H— do Mccain think they can take Colin Powell legacy away. Now I understand why the woman wrote the book CRAZY white folks

  4. One thing missing is that john McCain broke under torture. He was called a hero? Others who broke were called pariah and traitors.. I don't blame him cuz many don't know their breaking points but yo diss a man of distinction because of his CHOICE?? Asinine at best

  5. You were never friends with Colin Powell Sen. McCain in your entire life. I remember so well white folks like you called MLK a socialist and a communist vehemently and you joined the fray since you’ve been in Congress. So the “only people” you speak for as you always have is for those negroes that hunger to shimmy up to the likes of you and the rest of the right, far right, ultra right and tea partiers and you have the nerve to act as if every black man in prominence is suppose to kiss the $ss of you “good ole boys”. I’ll betcha he’ll say you were no where near or thought of as a friend. Please!

  6. COLLIN POWELL IS FINALLY THE GREAT MAN THAT GOD WANTED HIM TO BE! CONTINUE ON SIR! DOUGLAS K. STEWARD IN WASHINGTON DC FOR TRUTH AN JUSTICE FOR ALL BOT JUST SOME! 2023617415

  7. It should surprize no one that Fmr. Sec. of State, Fmr. Joint Chiefs Chair, Gen. Powell has drunken the Obama Kool-Aid. Esscentially, Gen. Powell has been a Ward-of-The-State his entire career……he was a Rebublican not because of his fierce Capitalist independence, but because of his parents; who’s generation were all Republicans…wanting to be Democrats, but were not allowed-in. Overwhelmingly, the very thing we’re denied is what we most want. That applies especially to us “Black Americans,” we really do want to belong…”God only knows why?” We had a “far-better” black community 50 years ago.

  8. MCain looks at Powell and sees the man he once was.Mccain lost his manhood in 2000 when the bushies said he had a black daughter, now he is the party lap dog a mere shadow of the hero he once was no so long ago.By the way Mccain does have black family members but being a member of the gOP he nevers admits it.

  9. This goes to show you how off base McCain is….General Powell legacy is NOT and will NOT be ruined….This is what he wishes to be.

  10. There is nothing General Colin Powell could ever do to harm his legacy, that will equal the stupidity of Senator John McCains selection of Sarah Palin as his vice president of a failed presidential bid. Perhaps it's Powell's brilliance and intelligence that is being envied at this time!

  11. BLESS HIS LITTLE (EUNUCH NAPLOEON) HEART! DISLIKES ANYONE TALL AND GOOD LOOKING! ESP; IF THEY ARE BLACK! the POTUS&COLIN POWELL!

  12. The funniest is to hear PM Putin describe why Mcain is crazy. Listen to Putin call Mcain a war criminal.

  13. Colin Powell did harm to himself when he was associated with the GOP, Thank God he was able to step away from these heartless, greedy, liars. He is highly respected then and even more today, I commend him for speaking out for what he knows and believes is in the best interest of the American People. McCain needs to take a long hike and please carry that Rogue of a Sarah Palin along with you. If anyone should be ashame of what they have done to American it should be John McCain for givin us Sarah! a mouth that makes no sense and refuses to close. Enough already!

  14. Some body needs to tell McCain that you can vote for who ever you want…

  15. John McinSain, do you think that General Powell
could go to the United Nations Committee without
George Bush’s permission, who do you think sent him
there? You yourself are a warhawk, you supported
Iraq, and Afganistan, and now you want us to start
war with Iran. All of this came because Viet Nam
captured your tired a** and bet the h**l out of you
for bombing their children. These white politicians only want you to be there friend when
they can control you opinions, thats not frienship
thats hens**t. You can never trust people like that. Colin Powell has said he is fed up with the
overt racism that pollutes his party, he has seen
this affliction first hand and people like
Condi Rice still continue to support his party, just wait and see if she comes to Colins defense.

  16. said the guy who picked sarah palin as his running mate out of desperation.

  17. A Christopher Hall

Who in hell is McCain to complain about Gen. Powell's choice for president!
Look at his choice for VP was. Sarah Palin? You've got to be kidding me.

Also, what made McCain qualified to be even a presidential candidate?
He took a plane worth about 100 million dollars, fully loaded for combat, got shot down, spent 5 or 6 years in a prison of war camp and lived through it. Great!
What about all the guys who didn't get shot down. I think they were more qualified!

  18. Henry McKee- Bush and his cartel. Funny!!

  19. McCain has it all wrong. Mr Powell reported at the UN using information provided by Bush and his cartel. He was against the war. I recall his saying, “Those who have never been to war relish going to war.” Ironically, the gang who was advising Bush are now all advising Romney and pushing to attack Iran on behalf of Israel.
Mr. Powell is a very intelligent man and can decide for himself who to support for the presidency. He does not need the approval of McCain or any of the other self-serving individuals.

  22. Some things never change Sen. McCain you are who you are and you cannot fool the public about your feeling that when you are white you are all right and when you are black in McCain’s opinion you get back, stay back. I ‘m retired military, retired in 1979 I’ve see you at work McCain your statement about Retired Gen. C. Powell is a complete disrespectful disgrace however it do not surprise me once a man of disgrace I suppose will always be a man of disgrace and here it is the world though you were a hero (pass tents were!)but then again were you? It is people like you McCain that will go no further you are done! You now need to get right with God before it is to late for you and those who follow you live with you and listen to your disrespect to Gen. C. Powell (you are what the world think your world is and that is NOTHING!

  23. Antionette Tombar

Mr.William Anderson, you took the words out of my mouth. You say a mouth full which is all true. GOD bless you!

  24. It doesn’t surprise me that after all Mr Powell has done not only for his court but the Republican party Sen. McCain the man who thought he could win the election by ruining with a woman has attacked him how do you blame an officer who has sworn to obey the orders of those appointed over him and the Commander and Chief to say what they wanted him to say. We were going to Iraq no matter what anyone had to say about it after Bush Sr. couldn’t get his man Jr. was going to stop at nothing to finish him off. If the KKK can endorse the POTUS why can’t a Republican. Instead of worrying about who is endorsing who why don’t you work together and fix the issues that we have in the country.

  25. Gen. Colin Powell’s legacy will never be flawed. This is a hero, a man of integrity and distinction and honor. He has served his country extremely well and his intelligence is superior. John McCain needs to sit his pathetic “living dead” ass down somewhere and shut the hell up. I respected him when he was decent enough to stand up for President Obama against a old racist biddy who called Obama some stupid name during a debate, I thought he had a decent bone in his body, but if it wasn’t for him and his party’s character assassination of the President, people like that old bitch would never have the crazy lies to spew. I’m sure Gen. Powell loses no sleep over that piece of sh**.

  26. Wille Lynch is still in the process of a ressurection. Why year after year does the All White Male Club believe that the legitimacy of African Americam Men and Women as a people begin and end at the curvature of their lip less face. Mr McCain finished at the bottom of his class at the Naval Acadmey. His service in the Senate on behalf of ALL AMERICANS has been a utter failure. His desire to be the twin bookend to Donald Trump is a revelation of the chicken sized heart in his chest. Neither trump or McCain had the courage to conduct a face to face conversation. The paper or news link that carried this trash can be painted with the same brush. As a Sailor that is still in the Navy I find that Mr McCains behavior disgraceful and unworthy of being connected to the uniform and legacy of a United States Naval Officer.

    • Exactly! A blackman can go from hero to zero, in a flash when you quit being a step-and-fetch it, and turn into a revolutionary man of free speech and independent thinking of who you will support. I’ve seen this happen to blacks before from whites and blacks if their is no allegiance to whom they want you to support. Mc,Cain is just disgruntled because Colin, was a better solider and man in the first place, long before colin decided to support Obama. Thisi s just McCains cover up reason so he doesn’t look racist, but political, but he has once again since Palin exposed himself for what he really is. This should serve as a warning people! POLITICIANS want to control the voting process of who to vote for.

  29. When McCain denounces General Powell's erroneous testimony to the U.N. (which Powell had previously expressed regrets for) in retaliation to Mr. Powell making sure that this time he follows his conscience; McCain is offering evidence of his own questionable scruples, than making Mr. Powell worthy of what whatever he's trying to portray.

Consequently, we should thank Mr. McCain for showing his true character, even if in an accidental way.

  30. The mental health of John McCain appears to be failing fast.Thank God he can recieve treatment under”Obama Care” :-)

  31. It's interesting for sen. McCain to say that, given the fact that he's one of the lead instigators and readily voted to invade Iraq. Even now he's advocating for US to attack Iran instead of exhausting non-military options.

  32. McCain you are a sad case..What do you think your legacy will be? That you got your dumb white butt kick by a Black man…. You are a disgrace to the White Race..They should excommunicate your dumb butt…..lolololololol…..

Senile people should be forcefully admitted into a nursing home…
Do you think anyone really cares that you used to be a great admirer of Colin Powell…..huh huh SMH in awe….

  33. PERSONALLY I BELIEVE HE HAS ENHANCED HIS LEGACY. IT'S OBVIOUS TO ME THAT IT'S ABOUT RIGHT AND WRONG. I'VE SAID IT ALL ALONG THAT COLIN POWELL MAY BE THE MOST CELEBRATED OR WELL KNOW REPUBLICAN TO GO PUBLIC ABOUT ENDORSING PRESIDENT OBAMA. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT MANY REPUBLICANS ARE DISPLEASED WITH THEIR REPRESENTATION OF LATE WITH SARA PALIN, "TICKY MITT ROMNEY, NEWT GINGRICH AND THE LIKES. IT'S NO WONDER COLIN POWELL WENT WITH BARACK OBAMA. THE BIG QUESTION SHOULDN'T BE DIRECTED TO COLIN POWELL AS TO WHETHER HE DISGRACED HIS LEGACY, THE BIG QUESTION REPUBLICANS SHOULD ASK THEMSELVES IS DAMN, IS THAT ALL WE GOT? (REFERRING TO ROMNEY).

    • McCain is an idiot. Colin Powell's legacy is still in tact.

    • So well put, great commentaries. Let's take them all and stuff in Ann Coulters mouth!!!!!!!!!Maybe then some truth will come out of her mouth. And McCain no doubt Colin's legacy only gets bigger. Finally a well respected Republican endorsing the truth. Colin endorsed Pres. Obama who beat you in round one and stay tuned for round two. KO! repeat-scared you guys are.

  34. Senator John McCain is “SHOUTING” disapproval over General Colin Powell’s endorsement of President Barack Obama. Yet, on Mitt Romney’s flip-flopping, outright lies, lack of knowledge on foreign policy, the endorsement of Senator Mourdock, in light of his deplorable views on rape and abortion, the despicable antics of Tea Party members, and the intentional congressional gridlock by Republicans, the “SILENCE” of John McCain [and “his” presidential candidate of choice] is deafening and speaks volumes. As I watched former Secretary of State, General Colin Powell, announce his endorsement for the re-election of President Obama, I was overwhelmed. Not merely because General Powell chose the President over Mitt Romney, but because I understood the courage it took for General Powell to break ranks…again. There was nothing easy about what he did. But, General Powell has always stood by his convictions, despite John McCain’s protests. [Now Senator McCain wants to blame the Iraq war on “his” former friend.] General Powell was booed at the Republican National Convention when he took to the stage and supported affirmative action. Despite that rejection from his own party members, he remained a loyal Republican. This “man” is a four-star General who has served his country militarily, served under both presidential administrations of George H., and George W. Bush, while living under harsh criticism from African Americans because of his party affiliation, and even harsher criticism from his own party members when he didn’t, and in this case, doesn’t toe the party line, particularly with his endorsement of President Obama. As I watched the Piers Morgan Tonight show, I was appalled by the way John Sununu, [and now John McCain] attempted to dismiss what I know I heard from General Colin Powell — a thoughtful contrast of the two presidential candidates on their economic and foreign policy and consistency on their positions. John Sununu accepted George W. Bush’s endorsement of Mitt Romney without question. [I have also heard not a word of disapproval from John McCain.] The race nor the ethnicity of either man was ever mentioned. Yet, John Sununu ascribed General Powell’s endorsement of President Obama to one reason alone – “look at him.” They are both Black. General Colin Powell couldn’t have been more clear or precise about “his” choice. [And John McCain must have not been listening, for it took but a minute for him to erase the great record of “his” former friend no sooner than it took General Powell to announce “his” decision.] But what I want you to zero-in and stay focused on is the “SILENCE” of Mitt Romney. This is a man who “now” claims he wants to be president of 100% of Americans. Yet, John Sununu has not been discharged from his position as co-chairman of Mitt Romney’s campaign, neither have I heard Mitt Romney speak out against his inflammatory remark, or publicly praise a “man” who deserves all of our praise. In spite of Mitt Romney’s “SILENCE,” John Sununu’s race-baiting, or John McCain’s outrage, allow me to leave you with this: “No matter how many ways they try to spin it, this country has a long way to go before we win the war on ‘racism.’ So, I want to thank you, General Colin Powell, for you make me proud to be an American.” Now, for those of you who are still undecided voters, listen to the “SILENCE” of Mitt Romney, and ask yourself, “Where do I fit in that 100% he will represent?”

  35. McCain is trifling. He chose Sarah,”I’m the dumbest VP candidate since Dan Quayle”, and was willing to put her incompetent self a 72 year old’s heartbeat from the Presidency, and he has the gall to talk about tarnished legacies???

  36. How dare McCain place Iraq solely on Powell’s shoulders. Bush and everyone of his cabinet members were on television constantly misinforming us about Iraq and WMD’s. lest I remind McCain he was also part of that drumbeat and Then senator Obama was one of the few who stood against the senseless war.

  37. First and foremost, John McCain is a military man. Given an objective he does not ask "Right or wrong?" or even if his life – figurative or literal – may be at risk. One must admire his courage and dogged determination – even if convinced he is dead wrong. Don't pretend to know Senator McCain's mind, but do think he is putting his own legacy in peril with such over-the-top language.

  38. The Republicans, Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II made Powell through a series of appointments. They are pissed because he has turned his back on his benefactors.

Powell deliberately lied to the UN to justify the war on Iraq. That’s his legacy–a liar. Who could respect or trust someone like Colin Powell?

  39. I hate it when people think that they own you! We are all free thinking people and can make choices as we see fit. McCain you made your choices – good or bad. Allow Colon Powell to make his own. We’re not on anymore plantations.

  40. Colin should respond to McCains attack with one of his own! No is not the time to be timid – slap him Colin.

Imagine if Colin did say, coming from a man who made a mockery of our party with his vp selection 08 I’d advise not to talk about legacies.

  41. That dried up old redneck looks just the mummmy!!!

    OLD CRIPPLED BAS*TURD!!!

  42. McCain the same guy who went against Making Martin Luther King day being a holiday in Arizona. Yeah I remember back then, I know were you are coming from.

  43. McCain remains silent when Hannity, Limbaugh, Trump or any other right winger spews hateful and sometimes racially toned vitriol at the President. Colin Powell is a great American and Statesman.

  44. John McCain must have forgotten the dynamics of his own legacy. It was Mr. McCain who fought against a national holiday for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the state of Arizona, and now he has aimed his venomous attention towards another man of character and conviction, Collin Powell, who happens to be African-American. It seems as though Mr. McCain has issues with African-Americans who are intelligent enough to spot inconsistency in character and principles held by most of use in the moderate range of the political and social spectrum. Mr. Powell spotted the inconsistency when Mr. McCain chose Sara Palin as his running mate and he also spotted the inconsistency when he questioned which Mitt Romney would take the oath of presidency. Mr. McCain should examine his own legacy before questioning the integrity of Mr. Powell. Furthermore the lie that took this country into the war in Iraq came from the war criminals George W. Bush and his VP Dick Chaney, Mr. Powell was only being the good soldier for an unscrupulous commander and chief.

    • @William Anderson, so well put my brother. There's also underlying racism in the comments that others have made regarding Colin Powells' endorsement of President Obama. Romney who wants to be the leader of the free world, hasn't shown any leadership and distanced himself from the ugliness and disrespect that those directly associated with him have heaped upon this President, I'm ashamed of America right now; also afraid.

  45. Have you noticed when mccain hasn’t gotten any press or his name hasn’t been mention in the news in a while he just pops up to get attention? What is he now the spokesman for the the republican party? Nobody cares mccain, just accept it you’re old and forgotten about. He still cannot accept the fact that he got beat by obama back in 2008. Grow up!

  46. McCain just as all the TEApublican, use lies a deception to spread poison to the people of these united states. Colin Powell has endorse President Obama forthe second time, first being when mcCain chose that racist pig with lipstick to run as the potential leader of this country, in case he drop dead from to many lies and deception if elected. Colin Powell is not a fool he can see how the TEAPARTY has merged with the Republican party and racism is running rampant. McCain knows how the people whomare suppose to collect data and submit to the military so they can determine what decision to make about hostile countries. Colin Powell was given totally false information about IRAQ, and was asked to give his opinion about IRAQ possession of weapon of mass destruction. Powell was the only person with any creditability, between BUSH ! CHANEY ect..ect..ect…his opinion base on the false information led to the USA declaring war on IRAQ. CHA…CHING for CHANEY!BUSH and friends. The only way Powell could get those greedy low life back, was to endorse PRESIDENT OBAMA in 08. He is proud to be a Republican but he is disappointed in how low the leaders have become. I say what he did is to be commended, however he knows a snake when see one. McCain the lousy sore loser, can only wish he could have a legacy as deep as Colin Powell, and needs to wash his tongue for ever mentioning his name and thinking his lying and deception will have an affect on a anyone with common sense about Colin Powell. YOU LOST US WHEN YOU CHOSE SARAH…peace

  47. George E. Ferguson

I think that Gen. Powell has embellished his legacy as a TRUE patriot in expressing his opinion of a party organization which has clearly “gone off the rails.” He has been consistent, which is more than one can say about McCain, Romney, Ryan and others who are apparently engaged in a MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) mode within the GOP.
i ADNIRE his fortitude and honesty.

  48. Gwendolyn T Singh

John McCain is right about one thing…Colin Powell did damage his legacy due to his testimony before the UN. But John McCain has no legacy either

  49. Leonard Faulcon Jr.

The man who chose Sarah Palin, and crashed more planes that birds…..N-word please!

  50. Leonard Faulcon Jr.

If John Mccain had any sense……

  51. This is what happens when you speak truth power. These so-called oligarchical minded hypocrites who have in mind world hegemony doesn't want to be admonished by anyone let alone a person of color and for one of their hand-picked lackeys to speak out against them is akin to a crime against humanity to them. I won't go on any further but to say I knew the evidence was false(fabricated) when the Invasion was decided, and the WHOLE administration knew. The whole world is a bluff think on that.hotep.

  52. Harmed his legacy? I think not… Powell's morals have outweighed his loyalty to the perpetuation of the party of the great lie…

  53. McCain has the gaul to question General Powell's legacy after he picks Sarah Palin as his running mate in 08? The hypocrisy of the GOP is astonishing!

    • QueenAnnajean Lawrence-Henryhand

not to mention, and I quote McCain, "My fellow Prisoner", he doesn't know whether he's still in a POW Camp or in the USA! He's confused!
