Man Faces Life Behind Bars For Using ‘Hand Pump’ Rifle to Shoot at Cops

Lester Chambers may’ve been just drunk, high, or just aggravated when he fired shots at police, but now he’s facing life behind bars for his actions.

The Wayne County Prosecutor in Michigan filed 27 charges, including eight counts of assault with intent to murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, against Lester Chambers of Harper Woods.

A little over a week ago, Woods fired shots at police who’d been called to his home by neighbors. Neighbors said Woods was firing his “hand pump” shotgun in his backyard, so they called police.

Once officers arrived, Chambers began firing at the home of his neighbors as well as the four officers on the scene.

Chambers initially walked out of his home unarmed, but then he reentered and began firing at officers, hitting two police vehicles.

The standoff between Chambers and the officers lasted for about an hour, ending when a relative spoke to Chambers over the phone, encouraging him to turn himself in.

Chambers said at his arraignment that he lives with his wife and two kids.

He is charged with eight counts of assault with intent to murder, eight counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, eight counts of felonious assault, discharging a firearm at an occupied building, malicious destruction of police property and felony firearm possession.
