What's Happening In Your World
by Yvette Carnell Whenever anyone dares to say that President Obama is a right of center politician, he or she is usually maligned as a “hater”, or someone who clearly doesn’t understand politics. (That sort of thing usually involves a trite chess vs. checkers reference as well.)  But in an all but unnoticed comment on Spanish-language  television on December 14 , Obama himself confirmed that, according to the traditional American political spectrum, he’s a moderate Republican. Said Obama, “The truth of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if I had set the same policies that I had back in the 1980s, I would be considered a moderate Republican.” So why isn’t President Obama considered a Republican anymore? Well,  because 1) everyone’s been tricked by the Tea Party into believing that Obama has spooky socialist inclinations 2) the Tea Party has gone so far to the right that even moderate Republicans appear slightly liberal 3) He’s black. And African-Americans are uniquely contorted  in a psychological braid which renders them unable to refute Obama’s conservatism because, in most of their minds, black conservative = sellout. So how in the world could they integrate their adoration for Obama with their hatred of all things both black and GOP? The amount of cognitive dissonance therein is enough to induce a psychic fracture. Anyway, it’s good to hear Obama admit what many people who pay attention to policies, not personalities, already know. h/t to   The Fiscal Times
