What's Happening In Your World
. Reports are stating that Sandy Hook Elementary School is closed indefinitely following the tragic shooting on Friday. Newtown Public School District superintendent Janet Robinson and Jim Agostine, superintendent in neighboring Monroe, are currently in negotiations to prepare the former Chalk Hill Middle School in Monroe to house students and staff displaced by the shooting at Sandy Hook. All of the schools in the Newtown Public School District are closed today to give the community additional time to mourn the 28 lives lost on Friday. Classes at all schools (excluding Sandy Hook) will resume tomorrow. Support staff and trained counselors are available to students and staff within the district. In a statement published on Monroe Public School District’s website, Agostine offered further details about security protocols and the future of Sandy Hill Elementary School. On Monday, our teachers and support staff will be available to support your children if they are anxious or concerned about the tragedy. A Police Officer will be present in all of our schools to reassure staff and students. Please know we will take every precaution to keep your children safe while they are in Monroe Public Schools. We have been working with our First Selectman Steve Vavrek and representation from Newtown. Newtown will be using Chalk Hill School beginning this week. It is important that the Sandy Hook students get back to school quickly in an environment that is familiar and safe. We recognize that everyone would like to lend a helping hand, but we have been asked to hold back until the Newtown staff is settled in and they can direct our efforts. SchoolMessenger emails and our website, www.monroeps.org, has information that will provide you with guidance on speaking to your children about violence. Sincerely, Jim Agostine and the Monroe Administrative Team — Source

  1. What a joke! The NRAs, who usually are republicans, agreed today we should have police at every school and increase number police officers in poor Black neighborhoods. Really? But Republicans and NRAs have been sinning against humanity for a long time till now. Look they are still fighting to end the FISCAL CLIFF which may increase police in poor neighborhood. GOPers and NRAs hate government. They want business to rule the country. Every time we democrats suggest gun control or having more police, these people whine “the government is taking our freedom away. We don’t want more police-we have our guns.” Dumb. That is why we have tragedies in big cities and schools now. GOPers and NRAs know some crazy may want to hurt children in schools and in big cities. But GOP and NRAs still believe such shootings are part of evolution – survival of the fittest – voodoo concept of life. These people don’t know these killers are going to finish us all including them – before they wise out to stop killing. Only the government can stop killers. We need more police officers. But wait after a month. The same people will fight funding for police in schools and poor cities. NRA and GOP brains are poisoned. They don’t care about others until it hits them personally. The latest deaths are a wake-up call for us and them. We hope this momentum will continue until we have enough police in schools and in poor Black communities.

  2. This school should be torn down. Replace it with a park of rememberance.
