Stanford University doctors dug through reams of research to find out — and concluded there's little evidence that going organic is much healthier, citing only a few differences involving pesticides and antibiotics. The study was conducted after numerous patients asked them if eating organic products was the healthier food option. " I was absolutely surprised ," said Dr. Dena Bravata, a senior research affiliate at Stanford and long-time internist who began the analysis because so many of her patients asked if they should switch. Dr. Bravata stressed that there are many reasons why someone might choose organic foods over conventional foods, but when it comes to individual health, there isn't much difference between the two. Eating organic fruits and vegetables can lower exposure to pesticides by 30%, including for children — but the amount measured from conventionally grown produce was within safety limits, the researchers reported Monday. The organic food failed to  prove more nutritious. The one notable difference that Dr. Bravata's team discovered is organic foods proved to be more resistant to antibiotic-resistant germs than conventional products; however, the bacterial contamination of food are the same whether or not the product is organic. During their testing, the researchers found that bacteria in non-organic chicken or pork had a 33% higher risk of being resistant to multiple antibiotics. The report was released on Monday in the journal of Annals of Internal Medicine. Organic foods account for 4.2% of retail food sales, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It certifies products as organic if they meet certain requirements including being produced without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, or routine use of antibiotics or growth hormones. Consumers can pay a lot more for some organic products but demand is rising: Organic foods accounted for $31.4 billion sales last year, according to a recent Obama administration report. That's up from $3.6 billion in 1997. That finding comes amid debate over feeding animals antibiotics, not because they're sick but to fatten them up. Farmers say it's necessary to meet demand for cheap meat. Public health advocates say it's one contributor to the nation's growing problem with increasingly hard-to-treat germs.     • Even though European and Asian Countries have Mandatory Labeling of GMO's, in the USA people are less aware of the Truth and are lead to believe GMO's are safe. It' hard not to discuss a problem which is promoted to be not a problem by those who profit from GMO's. People are mis-educated and unaware of the real dangers, so the conversation is necessary for the mis-informed people, who are brainwashed with lies.

  8. You wonder how articles like this can be written without at least looking at both sides of the coin. It's a Fact that Non-Organic Foods contain chemicals and Genetically Engineered substances that cause Sterility in animals and humans.

    This battle has been going on for over a decade, but as the dangers have gone from Labs to plants, animals, soil and man, people are demanding Natural Organic Foods in opposition to the Genetically Modified Organisms, or GMO’s.

    Many GMO Foods are already banned in Europe and farmers in Canada and other foreign countries are staging battles against Monsanto and other producers of GMO Foods. Science has already proven GMO products have caused sterility in animals and in some cases where the results have been a Cancer causing “Dioxin”, which in Germany and Europe in January 2011 and May 2012, farmers lost billions of dollars in sales of pigs, chickens and eggs, due to Dioxin contamination. Even the Honey Bee Die Off or Colony collapse disorder has been associated with the growing of GMO Plants and the chemicals sprayed on them.

    All of the hazards to animals and humans have been addressed and people in California are demanding the right to know what foods they are consuming. We should expect Monsanto, Fast Food Producers and major grocery outlets to fight against Labeling because tens, if not hundreds of billions are at stake. Although Proposition 37 lost on the California ballot this year, other States are demanding Labels on the foods they eat, because GMO and Non-Organic Foods have been proven to be hazardous to your good health.

  10. The sad thing about this article is the amount of pathetic people that will believe it. Most of you will never travel outside of the United States. So, you will never get to experience what it’s like to eat naturally grown organic fruits, vegetables or meat that came from an animal that wasn’t pumped up with hormones and chemicals it’s entire life. This is pure propaganda. Think about it. If a food isn’t organic then what is it? Genetically Modified Food. Have these Stanford scientist(?) taken a little mozy through the Black Community lately? Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Fibroids, Cancer are all related to diet. If you put a bunch of crap into your body it will turn to crap.
