Teens Arrested For Gunning Down 79 Year Old Flea Market Worker Who Refused to Sell Them Guns

The ages of the teens who allegedly gunned down a flea market worker in Lakeland, Florida span from 13-18. Technically, most are still kids, but authorities say they’re all cold bloodied murderers.

The five teens who’ve been apprehended by police

Authorities say the teens took part in the shooting of a 79 year  flea market worker, all because he refused to sell them a gun.

The teens came to the market to buy a gun, but when the victim refused to sell them a gun, they left, and returned with friends,  opening fire on the elderly man, and smashing his display case.

“Apparently he probably told them to get lost, you’re too young, you don’t have ID,” said flea market worker Ron Goldman. “They didn’t like the answer, so they got some more punk friends and now the guy is fighting for his life in the hospital.”

Local affiliate WTSP.com reports:

Sheriff’s investigators Sunday announced the arrest of five suspects in the case. They’re identified as 18-year-old Bernando Copeland, 17-year-old Khalid Preston, 15-year-old D’ante Morris, 16-year-old Ladarius Johnson, and 16-year-old Dwight Martin.

Two other teens, the youngest in the group, remain at large.  They’re identified by the sheriff’s office as Davion Smith and Kendall Wainwright, just 13 and 14 years old.

“All of the suspects responsible for this senseless act of violence will go to jail,” said Polk Sheriff Grady Judd. “Our detectives are working around the clock. This investigation isn’t over.”

A teen who knew some of the teens involved in the shooting said he never would’ve believed his classmates would do such a thing.

These rap videos are perpetuating a false reality. These children believe that the rap video is real life. Then they go out and act upon what they see in the video. Little do they know that the real world is nothing like the rap video world. They don't have anything else to do. No afterschool programs, no self enlightenment programs, note initiatives to build self pride, no jobs, and unfortunately no Drive to further their education. A losing battle…

  2. This is sad. Who is really to blame but the individuals themselves. Always excuses. I Myself was an orphaned child. Parents left Me at 2 years of age. I was in Group homes. Victim of rape at a young age. ETC. Still I made choices to be a better person then what I seen around Me. There is always someone less fortunate than you are. Excuses are lame. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Then okay FAIR is FAIR.

And down right stupity is stupid. For them teenagers to think that they wouldn’t get caught by so bolding puting all on FB what they did.

In My Adult life now. I’m damn near homeless, lost my job. Was a victim in a domestic vilent inncident and still I don’t think about doing such things. Lord knows I could have shot a few people.

I have a conscience. So many people don’t. They deserve what is coming at them. They did the crime, now do the time.

  5. Damn this is such a Sad Messd up Situation…

  6. We ar living in a society that glorify and support the thug look and even copied by those that are not teens but fathers and grand fathers and the media support this by commercials that dispect this as an exceptable image, not knowing that this moves many from the main stream of society, this style only attract the thug and gang banger group that end up in jail.

  7. This sort of things makes me angry and sad simultaneously! Angry because of this horrible act, and sad for the loss of life through death unnecessarily and loss of life to prison

  8. 12-1-12
The death of the African American in America, extremely violent and pity thieves.

This is just the beginning, and that is the most unfortunate situation specially in African American communities. We have finally cause problems that the rest of the American community will not tolerate with. The African American community is on their own. The crime rate in all major cities is exclusively caused by African Americans. Statistics indicate that the average African American male or female under the age of 30 is either unemployed on welfare or in jail. We are killing each other stealing from each other wholesale. The white and Hispanic community is no longer willing to trust or positively interact with African Americans for any type of opportunity's that may be available. We as a people are no longer trusted and not able to bla…
me anyone, but ourselves for our own irresponsible actions.
We are not taken the opportunities that are readily available, instead these opportunities are being taken by immigrants willing to work to make a better life for themselves.

["DAMN": we have become losers in our own country.]

A message to all [PARENTS]. Take a look at your gangster and thug Children. By Sunday morning one of your children will not come home again , Unfortunately he or she will be Amongst an unnecessary statistic of street death And street violence.

Again parents are you listening ; help your children while there alive, because once their dead or incarcerated from street violence your tears will be in vain.

    • I hear what you are saying but i dont agree with a lot of the numbers, like when you say " The crime rate in all major cities is exclusively caused by African Americans. Statistics indicate that the average African American male or female under the age of 30 is either unemployed on welfare or in jail" what is the average, an do you know the meaning of exclusively, if not here it is: solely – only – entirely – merely – alone – purely, to the exclusion of others; only; solely. so what you are telling us in the post is that only black people commit crimes, your out of you mind, you sound like one of them white folk on fox news, an if you wanna consider yourself a loser then be my guess because by this post alone you have proven it to me. I dont no where you are from but ill bet you a hundred dollars to a bucket of shit that the average African American male or female under the age of 30 is not either unemployed on welfare or in jail.your spending to much time watching fox an friends. an by the way I think these kid should do the time for this crime, as much as possible.

    • James Nicholas "O"do i detect hostilities "I hope this is not the only way we as African-Americans can communicate with others ,but it seems like it's almost hereditary in our "DNA" THAT VIOENCE SEEMS TO BE OUR ONLY ALTERATIVE.My statement must be right you sound-extremely angry, that seems to appear like how we African-Americans communicate. Is that true you sound pretty angry

    • Marvin Gittens you are sooo funny!

  9. I hope they do get Life in Prison, and I don't care how young they are. Commit and Adult crime, do adult time. After all, they took the time to leave then come back with so-called friends, with a Gun. This wasn't spur of the moment, they knew what they were doing, and they are old enough to know the consequences of shooting someone, and they'd better hope he does not die as a result of what they did. And yes, what kind of damn parents do they have? I never, even til this day wouldn't think to shoot someone just because I didn't get what I want, and a Gun at that. Goodmriddance to bad rubbish, I'm sick of all these little punks running around with Guns.

  10. Y'all sell guns at Flea Markets now? WOW!

  11. what a bunch of idiots.. where are the parents?

  12. Tired of teenagers having no respect for others. Pants down; hair nappy and our parents letting them come like that. We in Florida are tired of this b.s.! No matter who you are; I say, make these penalties harsh for the lil hoodlums. Sorry; fed up with this mess.

    • so the answer is punishment? hmm, wonder how that’s gonna work out. by no means is this acceptable but look at their envoirment it;s like they are doomed to fail

      • I definitely agree with making punishments for these types of crimes be much, much harsh. People who get arrested for drug possession, or intent to distribute get 18 to 30 years. Simple non violent charges. But gun possessions, attempted murders well maybe bout 10 years and a little more. They should get max for first offenders and make an example out of them for these teenagers who are now walking around here thinking they are immortal because they resolve everything with violence.

I agree, no respect for others. They have not been taught how to deal with rejection, or how to overcome obstacles with hard work and dedication. We are forgetting to take care of our kids instead allowing the world and pleasures of materialistic things be a guide to our priorities.

I fear for my two sons, but I work hard to keep them involved in activities so they can stay off the streets. I think with that is not enough to keep them out of danger. It can happen anywhere and to anyone. This world is so evil and it’s a shame that we have to allow our justice system to raise them. Until the government do more about the justice system, guns, and better strategies to keep down crime we are in trouble.

But the disheartening thing is that they focus more on camera tickets, who’s paying more taxes our children are dying by the hands of our streets. And if we don’t come together in numbers, we will never be heard!!

  13. SAD SITUATION THESE MISGUIDED YOUTHS ARE GOING TO JAIL FOR FOREVER CAUSE LORD KNOWS NO ONE IS GOING TO SHOW PITY ON THEM. SURE THEY MADE AN EXTREMELY BAD DECISION BUT THEY ARE MOSTLY KIDS. IS IT REALLY JUSTICE IF ALL THESE YOUNG MEN SPEND THE REST OF THEIR LIVES IN JAIL? I LOOK AT ALL THE POST EVERYONE HAS MADE ON THIS STORY AND WONDER ARE PEOPLE AS RIGID IN THEIR OWN LIVES AS THEY ARE JUDGING OTHERS.

    • YES it is ! Trying to be grown will get you grown man consequences. A man is fighting for his life because of the depraved indifference of these assholes. This is more than a "bad decision". As for being rigid in our lives, I feel safe in saying that those expression an opinion on this story don't go around trying to kill people because they didn't get what they wanted.

    • WELL PUT MR. GUNN, I'm looking from the perspective of circumstances. dont get me wrong i am not saying what they did was good in anyway but I ask what about the parents? The area the youth are from is a ghetto and with not alot of oppurtunities we all know the drug abuse and violence that goes on pair that perhaps with minimal supervision and we can easily find ourselves right here.
I guess when I read the article the writers words seems to attack the young men to the point i felt they should be defended . If that makes sense.

    • If they killed your grandpa would you want justice? Or would you just say "oh they are kids" and let them free?

    • who said "oh they kids" and "let them free"?

    • @ Youcanbe Anythang Onhere, Its time to stop making excuses for these young men, thugs, hood rats what ever you wanna call them, thats why they act like they do because they no some bleeding heart will come up with a reason why they act like they do, its sad when a man cant go to work to make a living without these sorry ass punks shooting them down in cold blood, an no that don't make sense to defend them from the writer because they need too be attacked just like they attacked an shoot this man in cold blood, maybe they will use the stand your ground defense, no matter the circumstance ghetto raised dont mean that you have to act like this.

    • @james I hear you but let me get this straight you refer to the youth as thugs and hoodrats hmm… as I said before by no means was this a tolerable act. The point I'm trying to convey is with the circumstances, and the enviorment. alot of youth are doomed to failure from the beginning. And here we are talking about fry em, give them life! I wonder would people be soo rigid if one of these youth were your son or relative?

    • In response to "Youcanbe Anythang Onhere", while it is true that circumstances may dictate how we live our lives or go about our way on a daily basis, being from the "ghetto" should nor be used as an excuse for shooting anyone just because they were not sold a gun, the reason why the elderly gentleman did not sell them the gun was purely because they were too young, if we had more citizens like him who would do the right thing and not look for the quick dollar, maybe the "ghetto" would become a paradise. The sad thing is there were a 13 and a 14 year old involved in this.

  14. No words for this senseless act of violence. Prayers go out for the victim and his family. Prayers go out to the families of the perpetrators of this heinous crime. A split second bad decision forever altered the lives of all involved.

  15. Try 'em. Convict 'em and fry 'em!

  16. Good to see killers locked up.
