TMZ’s Harvey Levin Believes African-Americans Owe Magic Johnson By Supporting His Gay Son

TMZ's Harvey Levin interviewed Magic Johnson regarding his son's decision to be openly gay.

.

TMZ’s Harvey Levin has an issue with how the African-American community reveres homosexuality. In a candid interview titled “Magic Johnson On Anti-Gay Haters,” Levin — who’s not seen in the video clip, but heard asking the questions —  asks Magic Johnson “There were some African-American blogs where people were commenting and it was harsh, I mean there were some harsh, even mean comments on these blogs — which I’m sure you know about. What’s your reaction to that?”

Magic attributes the remarks to the African-Americans’ loyalty to religion and told Levin that he doesn’t care who attacks his son. He will still love him and support him. He continued to tell Levin that he told his son, EJ, to expect backlash from people about his decision to be openly gay. Levin cuts off Johnson and sharply asks “Why is that?” Magic responds by reiterating the community’s loyalty to religion.

Levin’s next question alludes to his belief that African-Americans should support Magic’s son as a token of appreciation for all of the contributions Magic has made to the Black community. “You are probably the most active businessman in the African-American community,” Levin says. “You’ve done an unbelievable amount for that community. Does it in any way bother you that they’re not paying it back to you?  By doing this to your son — at least the people who are commenting on these blogs.” Steering away from expecting the community to thank him by supporting his son, Magic explains to Levin that it bothers him that people are discriminating against anyone who is gay.

Judge the awkward interview for yourself by watching the video:

Do you believe the Black community should thank Magic Johnson by supporting his son?

  5. as someone mentioned before this interview doesn’t seem to have any real significance to neither Harvey or Magic besides the topic of homosexuality, this was an interview done TMZ style you know trying to stir the pot to a boil… I just don’t feel that Harvey was as passionate as he put on to be. How many times have celebs or politicians unlocked the homosexuality closet door and received backlash…but this situation is targeted because of a race issue? Not buying it…. S/N Im an equality supporter

I am not at all surprised by Levy being homosexual. I knew it many years ago because he loves gossip. None of the natural men I know care anything about gossip, only the homosexual ones do.

  7. “This Some Bull!!!”(doing my best Bernie Mac impression)

  8. Blacks folks owe Magic for WHAT now? So we are supposed to go against our core beliefs just because somebody did something good for the community? That’s some BULLSH!T! If that is the case, why not support the drug dealers that give to the community as well. Ya’ll know some of them do. Mr. Harvey Levin, I’m gonna ask you to let us support whomever and/or whatever we want, not what YOU think we should. This is the continuing problem now, White folks telling Black folks how they thin we should be. Who made them the authority? I

  9. I think most of you missed the deeper sentiment of Harvey’s comment. The main point of the entire issue is division WITHIN the Black community. We are the ONLY race of people in the USA who constantly and unapologetically cut one another down based on everything from skin shade to sexual orientation. You would think that after all we have been through in this country, as a group of people, that we would be more accepting of each other and come together for a greater good. Unfortunately, we have learned the lessons from our oppressors far too well and some of us blindly revere the “Book” they used to do it, more than each other. Willie Lynch would be so proud. As long as we are divided, in any way, they have won. There is a HUGE difference between a man who builds a corporation in order to employ thousands of his own and a man who builds a building and takes “donations” from his own, without creating jobs and prosperity within his own community.

    • Deanne , I agree with you . We do spend a great deal of time tearing one another down. I hope that we will one day get back to being able to support one another and stop being so judgmental. All of these people claiming to be doing it for God need to stop it. God doesn’t promote bashing and hate!

There needs to be a lot more critical thinking among those who claim to be thinkers. To merely disagree with something is not the same as spreading hatred. That kind of childish, manipulative propaganda needs to stop! It is nothing more than a smoke-screen aimed at diverting attention away from the real matter at hand. Those of you who label people a bigot, or accuse them of spreading hatred just for not agreeing with homosexuality; YOU are the most prejudice, and judgmental hypocrites of all! You have no way of looking into a person’s heart to know why they don’t agree with it. Unless they tell you specifically that they hate homosexuals, or you know that they participate in gay-bashing, you have no right to label anyone. Just agree to disagree, shut your mouth and leave it at that!

  10. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who feels the need to “owe” Majic anything!!!…He’s never done crap for me, and am I supposed to accept the fact that his son is gay?…am I supposed to relinquish my own opinions about homosexuals, just to please Majic?…It’s HIS son, not mine!!

  11. Nobody owes Magic anything. I find it hard to believe Magic and his wife are proud of their sons sexual preference. I’m sure they love him, but not his pref.

  12. I try to tell blacks that liberal racism is much worse than conservative racism, simply because liberal racism is covert. These are the people who you give 90 percent of your vote too, people who think that you’re all alike. Liberals do not care about you, they want nothing to do with you until an election.

Using this idiots logic it’s OK for whites to call EJ a faggot and hate him because whites don’t owe Magic’s black ass shit. By continuing to paint black people with a broad brush on this issue they are only making things worse. They’re making people dig in their heels. The funny thing is most of these idiots don’t even acknowledge that there are gay black people because they don’t care about those gays, just the white ones.

  13. Harvey may be a racist a hole but so are many so call Christians!! I’ve never read anything in the Bible that says you should hate people because there different. You don’t choose to be gay!

Homosexuality not a choice…really? I choose not to be one; therefore it is a choice to be one. Let’s look at the facts. 1) Two woman cannot have intercourse. 2)The male body is not designed to be penetrated as science has determined the anus is to exit waste. 3) Nature creates nothing that it does not provide for..example…Apples, oranges, watermelon etc etc etc, contain seeds and are self sustaining, just as only two different genders are, whereas two of the same are NOT. Things you don’t choose: your ethnicity, skin color, hair color, eye color, parents, hair type, blood type, shoe size, height…and I could keep going. Short of things in this type, everything else IS a choice. If I date only white women, Black women, short women, tall women, Indian, Asian etc…they are all choices. What kills me is that, if a black man dates only white women, we don’t say he was born that way, we associate some social influence as the reason for it; but when a man wants to choose the same gender, oh NOW it’s different? You people need to use your brain a lot more, and stop getting fooled by smoke screens. Just because you are emotionally cool with a person, does not mean you have to affirm their lifestyle no matter what it is. I got homies that I love as people, but they’re criminals, so I do not affirm their criminal activity just because we’re cool. My love for them, and what they choose are two separate issues…get it!

  18. Isn’t this the type of crap the Nazis were talking about? Good job Levin with proving them right,Jewish retard!

  19. I guess he thought that his comments would incite ” The Black Community ” to spew out all sorts of homophobic dribble. White’s are so funny, they view us as a collective but lack incite into anything that doesn’t benefit them. They don’t recognize our individuality or diversity. If your a Black man making millions in America good for you may you prosper. Love and happiness to you and yours. Don’t feed into the negative.

  20. first of all, that is really stupidto say, is he going to owe me and stand by me if I come out and say one of my sons is gay!! I don’t owe him or his son anything and if I choose to stand by him or not its not harey levins business,he should stick to what he knows sticking his nose in other peoples business like lil wayne was near death but he wasn’t,thats whats wrong now, people are just in eeryones business whil their life is a mess, why come white people, Mexican people, Chinese people, native americans people and all the other people cant stand behind him because his son is gay, why because hes black, that’s not a good enough reason for me!! I don’t need Harvey Levin trying to tell me what I should be doing I need Harvey Levin staying in his lane and not trying to be in mine, im sure magic does not give a damn if the African American and nobody else is not with him on supporting his son being gay, he supports him and that’s all Harvey Levin should be concerned with.

  21. Harvey Levin need to stay out of black folks family business. I support EJ and his daddy and religion. TMZ is a trashy show anyway. I hope Harvey reads this blog and the comments that call him out… He is dead ignorant for even going down that street with Magic Johnson. I expect nothing less of Magic for supporting his son! It’s what a normal loving father does.. Harvey Levin you are wack!!! Shalom man and don’t come back.

  22. Too much ignorance is paraded around on tv. The black owes Majic nothings for you to make such simple minded statement once again tells me. Enough is enough. Majic son is gay at his own expense not mine. But your statement pissed me of to the highest. You can see what black owe but you’re need see what others owe. BS turn off the lights.

  23. The only person that thinks Magic is owed something is Levin. Magic knew what was going to happen which is why he had the conversation with his son. And as a parent, he will love his son regardless of what people say.

  24. This is the same logic that many Jews have towards blacks. That we somehow owe them. This is what they tell black entertainers who they allow in the entertainment business. They refuse to acknowledge the millions they make from us but arrogantly think we owe them. They never say this to white people just blacks.

Black people are not a monolithic group. This white clown is pathetic. He’s trying to get Magic Johnson to turn against his own race just to support gays. Levin doesn’t give a damn about Magic Johnson son. He only cares about his own white Jewish gay ass and whites gays like him.

I’m sure this Jewish man wouldn’t want anyone to say that Jews should be held accountable for the actions of a few. Or that Jews owe Americans for the actions of corrupt greedy Jews like Bernard Madoff and Jewish criminal wall street bankers.

I guess it’s ok now to view Jews as a monolithic group. We can now start holding hypocritical Jews accountable for all the racist propaganda directed at black people in the media from Bloomberg magazine to the Hollywood film and TV industry. Even though they as Jews faced similar racial stereotypes and discrimination they had no problem making money doing the same to blacks and other racial minorities.

With Harvey Levin logic black people can now demand that Jews pay back all the money they’ve made off of our black communities.

  25. Harvey Levin is an ignorant, racist, a**hole! I wish blacks would stop supporting TMZ.

Blacks owe Johnson nothing, and certainly not their beliefs. He made millions off of blacks. That’s plenty of gratitude.
